quarter-cloneStarts a new Claude Code session from only the last quarter of the current conversation, dropping earlier context to save tokens while keeping recent work.
This skill makes a trimmed copy of the current Claude Code conversation that keeps only its final quarter. The agent reads the latest entry of ~/.claude/history.jsonl to get the session ID and project path, then locates half-clone-conversation.sh under ~/.claude, preferring the highest version when several copies exist, whether it came from a plugin or a manual symlink. The same script handles half and quarter cloning, with --quarter selecting quarter mode.
Before cloning, the agent previews the conversation and checks that its first and last messages match the current one, then runs the clone with the project path from the history entry rather than the working directory. The script prints the new session ID, appends a reference to the original conversation at the end of the cloned file, and tags the new session as a quarter clone with a timestamp. The agent then hands you the exact claude --resume command to continue it.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Quarter Clone Conversation loads about 401 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 36 tokens; SKILL.md has 198 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 198 words (~401 tokens).
“Clone the last quarter of the current conversation, discarding earlier context to reduce token usage while preserving recent work.”

Quarter Clone Conversation fits situations like: cutting token usage in a long session while keeping recent work; continuing a conversation without most of its earlier context.
Run `npx skills add ykdojo/claude-code-tips --skill quarter-clone -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/quarter-clone in ykdojo/claude-code-tips) into .claude/skills/quarter-clone in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add ykdojo/claude-code-tips --skill quarter-clone -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/quarter-clone in ykdojo/claude-code-tips) into .agents/skills/quarter-clone in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add ykdojo/claude-code-tips --skill quarter-clone -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/quarter-clone, .gemini/skills/quarter-clone, .github/skills/quarter-clone and .opencode/skills/quarter-clone in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Quarter Clone Conversation needs the command-line tools its instructions call (claude and jq). Our summary lists: half-clone-conversation.sh installed under ~/.claude; jq and a Unix shell.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Quarter Clone Conversation has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 401 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
