handsontable-devRoutes any change to the handsontable core package to the right specialist skill, by task type such as plugin, editor, renderer or validator, after a mandatory architecture review.
This is the entry point for development on the handsontable/ core package, excluding the separate Walkontable rendering engine subfolder, which has its own skill. Before any task-specific work, it requires loading handsontable-code-review first for the architecture lens, which enforces plugin decoupling through hooks and hot.getPlugin rather than direct references, conflict ownership through registerConflict for hard incompatibilities, the Law of Demeter through TableView or Core rather than reaching into wt.wtTable chains, and the full BasePlugin lifecycle contract.
A dispatch table then routes the actual implementation work: handsontable-plugin-dev, handsontable-editor-dev, handsontable-renderer-dev, handsontable-validator-dev and handsontable-celltype-dev for creating or modifying those respective pieces, handsontable-playwright-e2e for new end-to-end tests versus handsontable-e2e-testing for frozen legacy spec files, handsontable-unit-testing for unit tests, handsontable-demo-page for demo pages, handsontable-css-dev for styling, coordinate-systems for physical, visual and renderable coordinate translation, and i18n-translations for translation work.
6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 68b5e97. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
npmnodeFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Handsontable Core Development loads about 3.3k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 178 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,296 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,296 words (~3,254 tokens).
“Load handsontable-code-review (architecture dimension) first for every change, then the task-specific specialist. It is the design lens (SOLID, Law of Demeter, plugin decoupling, breaking changes); the task skill is the implementation guide.”

This is the entry point for development on the handsontable/ core package, excluding the separate Walkontable rendering engine subfolder, which has its own skill.wtTable chains, and the full BasePlugin lifecycle contract.
Handsontable Core Development fits situations like: fixing a bug or adding a feature anywhere under handsontable/src/; writing or modifying a plugin, editor, renderer, validator or cell type; understanding plugin lifecycle, coordinate systems or hook registration in the core grid; deciding which specialist skill a core Handsontable task should be routed to.
Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill handsontable-dev -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/handsontable-dev in handsontable/handsontable) into .claude/skills/handsontable-dev in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill handsontable-dev -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/handsontable-dev in handsontable/handsontable) into .agents/skills/handsontable-dev in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill handsontable-dev -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/handsontable-dev, .gemini/skills/handsontable-dev, .github/skills/handsontable-dev and .opencode/skills/handsontable-dev in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Handsontable Core Development needs the command-line tools its instructions call (npm and node). Our summary lists: The handsontable/handsontable repository checked out locally.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Handsontable Core Development has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 3.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 13k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
