At a glance

Opens a live BrowserStack session on a real Android, iOS or desktop browser for a local or public URL, tunneling localhost through Cloudflare when needed.

  • Works in 4 steps: Prepare something to test → Start the Cloudflare tunnel → Launch the BrowserStack session → …
  • Checking a page on a real iPhone or Android phone
  • SKILL.md covers Step 1: Prepare something to…, Step 2: Start the Cloudflare…, Step 3: Launch the… and Step 4: Cleanup
  • Calls curl, python3 and npx

What it does

BrowserStack devices cannot reach localhost, so the skill chains the local dev server to a temporary public address through a Cloudflare tunnel on trycloudflare.com, started with npx cloudflared and needing no Cloudflare account. It then launches the session with the BrowserStack runBrowserLiveSession MCP tool and shares the dashboard URL the tool returns. A public URL skips the tunnel step.

The examples are tied to the Handsontable repository: it can generate dev-pr.html for the local build and dev-latest.html for the released version through the handsontable-demo-page skill and serve them with Python's http.server, or start the Astro docs site. If Vite blocks the tunnel host, allowedHosts must include .trycloudflare.com. Sessions can be mobile or desktop, defaults are applied when no device is named, and the tunnel URL changes on every restart.

When your agent uses it

  • Checking a page on a real iPhone or Android phone
  • Cross-browser checks on a specific browser version
  • Testing a local dev server from remote real devices
  • Verifying touch behavior on mobile

Example prompts

  • “Test the local demo page on an Android phone through BrowserStack.”
  • “Open a live session in Safari on an iPhone for our staging URL.”
  • “Tunnel my dev server and open it in Chrome on a desktop BrowserStack session.”

Requirements

  • The BrowserStack MCP server with access to Live sessions
  • npx, to run cloudflared
  • Python 3, to serve the Handsontable demo files

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Prepare something to test
  2. Start the Cloudflare tunnel
  3. Launch the BrowserStack session
  4. Cleanup

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 68b5e97. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • curl
    • python3
    • npx
    • npm

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use curl, npx and npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

BrowserStack Live Testing loads about 950 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 136 tokens; SKILL.md has 277 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~136
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~950

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 277 words (~950 tokens).

“BrowserStack devices cannot reach localhost, so tunnel the local dev server through Cloudflare to a temporary public URL: local server -> Cloudflare tunnel (trycloudflare.com) -> BrowserStack Live.”
