At a glance

Verifies mobile app behavior end to end on the iOS simulator against a local API and relay, with strict evidence rules and an edge-case pass before anything counts as tested.

  • Works in 6 steps: Use the real screen. Sign in and reach… → Drive state through real services.… → Run the edge pass before reporting… → …
  • Reproducing or edge-testing a mobile bug in the real app on the simulator
  • SKILL.md covers Rules and Mechanics
  • Calls xcrun, bun and bunx; needs LIM_API_KEY

What it does

This is the mobile counterpart of a browser-based verification skill. Input goes through Maestro, evidence comes from `simctl` screenshots and recordings, and state comes from the real local API and relay, with `host-states.sh` as a working example. Six rules define valid evidence: use the real screen rather than a preview route, drive state by changing services instead of seeding the query cache, run an edge pass before reporting tested, never show an unknown state as a negative, catch brief flashes with a recording, and confirm a red check in CI before blaming main.

The edge pass covers cold start, a stopped dependency and its recovery, backgrounding and resuming, rapid state flapping, a very long name, a long-string locale such as German, a CJK locale and the largest text size, and the report says which of these were run. The mechanics section starts services in Superset terminals, explains the expired Neon branch failure and runs the relay in a loop because `wrangler dev` exits when a client aborts. A stand-in host replaces a second machine.

When your agent uses it

  • Reproducing or edge-testing a mobile bug in the real app on the simulator
  • Checking how the app behaves when the relay or API goes down and comes back
  • Producing screenshot and recording evidence for a mobile change

Example prompts

  • “Verify the new host status banner on the iOS simulator, including a relay outage.”
  • “Edge-test the mobile screen with a very long host name and the largest text size.”
  • “Reproduce the offline flash on launch and record it.”

Requirements

  • macOS with an iOS simulator and `xcrun simctl`
  • Maestro for driving the app
  • The local Superset API and relay

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Use the real screen. Sign in and reach the screen the way a user does. A temporary preview
  2. Drive state through real services. Change what the app sees by changing the local API or
  3. Run the edge pass before reporting "tested". The main path is not the test. At minimum
  4. Never show "unknown" as a negative. A query that is pending or failed has not said "offline",
  5. Catch flashes with a recording. A screenshot taken after a sleep cannot show a state that
  6. Attribute failures correctly. Before reporting that a check is red on main, confirm it in CI.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 6b94a61. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • xcrun
    • bun
    • bunx
    • ffmpeg
    • wrangler
    • curl

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use bunx, wrangler and curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • LIM_API_KEY

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Mobile Simulator Verification loads about 2.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 76 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,035 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~76
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.1k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:50
    e lines under `# Workspace Database` in `.env`.
  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:120
they take precedence over the root `.env`.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,035 words (~2,127 tokens).

“The mobile counterpart to cdp-verification. There is no CDP on a phone: input goes through Maestro, evidence comes from simctl screenshots and recordings, and state comes from the real local API and relay. "Rules" is what counts as valid evidence…”
