db-migrationsGenerates a Drizzle migration on a fresh Neon branch and runs a production-safety checklist for table sizes, lock order and load rehearsal before the PR opens.
The skill starts from the point that a migration which is correct on a quiet database can still take production down, and cites an earlier incident where a rewrite of a very large table while holding heavy locks on the auth tables brought the API down. To generate one, the agent creates a new Neon branch and points the root `.env` files at it, changes the schema under `packages/db/src/schema/`, runs `bunx drizzle-kit generate` from `packages/db`, and applies it to the dev branch only. It must not hand-edit the generated `drizzle` folder without your confirmation.
A safety checklist follows. It covers checking production table sizes with a read-only query, avoiding column type changes on large or busy tables, taking locks on the child table before the tables it references, avoiding long exclusive locks on hot tables, and keeping every statement well inside 60 seconds at production size. It also asks for a rehearsal on a Neon branch of production under load when a hot table is locked or a large one rewritten, data moves in the same release as reads, no tRPC input or output changes in the same PR, and deleting the preview branch after changing a pushed migration.

Drizzle Migration Safety on Neon loads about 2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,112 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

The workspace `.env`Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,112 words (~2,042 tokens).

Drizzle Migration Safety on Neon fits situations like: changing the database schema in packages/db and generating the migration; reviewing a migration for lock and table-rewrite risk before merge; deciding whether a migration needs a rehearsal on a production-sized Neon branch.
Run `npx skills add superset-sh/superset --skill db-migrations -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/db-migrations in superset-sh/superset) into .claude/skills/db-migrations in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add superset-sh/superset --skill db-migrations -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/db-migrations in superset-sh/superset) into .agents/skills/db-migrations in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add superset-sh/superset --skill db-migrations -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/db-migrations, .gemini/skills/db-migrations, .github/skills/db-migrations and .opencode/skills/db-migrations in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Drizzle Migration Safety on Neon needs the command-line tools its instructions call (bunx and bun). Our summary lists: A Neon project, with NEON_ORG_ID and NEON_PROJECT_ID set in `.env`; Bun with drizzle-kit in packages/db; Read-only production access for the table size query.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (mentions a .env file), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Drizzle Migration Safety on Neon has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 8.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
