visual-testingGuide to Playwright visual regression tests in Handsontable: when a screenshot is justified, the tablePage fixture, naming, reg-suit comparison and demo routes.
Visual tests live in the visual-tests folder as Playwright and TypeScript specs, and reg-suit compares their screenshots with golden records. Two jobs are covered: adding a visual test for an existing demo route, and adding a new feature demo route to the js demo under examples/next/visual-tests before writing its test. The documentation examples tree is not served by the visual suite.
A decision rule limits captures. A screenshot proves pixels only, so each distinct visual state gets one capture, asserted first, while focus, selection, data and menu facts stay as Playwright assertions in the E2E tests, and a visual spec is added to those assertions, never instead of them. Specs import the custom visualTest runner, since a bare test call is a lint error. The tablePage fixture opens the demo page, waits for the table, disables CSS animations and clears stray text selections before each capture, and file names are kebab-case descriptions of the visual state.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 68b5e97. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Handsontable Visual Testing loads about 2.3k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 85 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,031 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,031 words (~2,325 tokens).

Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill visual-testing -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/visual-testing in handsontable/handsontable) into .claude/skills/visual-testing in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill visual-testing -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/visual-testing in handsontable/handsontable) into .agents/skills/visual-testing in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill visual-testing -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/visual-testing, .gemini/skills/visual-testing, .github/skills/visual-testing and .opencode/skills/visual-testing in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Handsontable Visual Testing needs the command-line tools its instructions call (npm). Our summary lists: A checkout of the Handsontable repository; Playwright.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Handsontable Visual Testing has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 2.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 9.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
