refactoringRefactoring rules for Handsontable code: SOLID applied to plugins, Law of Demeter fixes, performance patterns and strict protection of backward compatibility.
The skill translates design principles into Handsontable terms. Each plugin owns one concern, new logic extends the system through hooks, plugins keep to the `BasePlugin` contract and narrow public APIs, and one plugin reaches another only through `hot.getPlugin()` instead of importing its class. Long call chains such as the one through `this.hot.view.wt.wtTable.holder` are replaced with a method on the intermediate layer. Settings that naming or location conventions already express should not become new options.
Pattern notes cover moving a second concern out of `core.js` into its own plugin, using a `forEach` loop where spreading a huge array into `push` overflows the stack, batching render cycles and scroll work, and modernizing code with `#privateFields` and arrow-function class fields. A table protects compatibility: default setting values, legacy CSS classes and legacy API names stay, deprecated APIs get a one-time warning, and removed hooks go on a removed list. Cognitive complexity is capped at 15 per function.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Handsontable Refactoring Rules loads about 815 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 378 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 378 words (~815 tokens).
“Eliminate config that naming, location, or type conventions already express. Use auto-discovery or lifecycle hooks in place of new options or wiring.”

Refactoring rules for Handsontable code: SOLID applied to plugins, Law of Demeter fixes, performance patterns and strict protection of backward compatibility. The skill translates design principles into Handsontable terms.getPlugin()` instead of importing its class.
Handsontable Refactoring Rules fits situations like: splitting an oversized Handsontable plugin or core module; redesigning an API while old names must keep working; speeding up code that renders or processes very large arrays; modernizing older class code without changing public behavior.
Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill refactoring -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/refactoring in handsontable/handsontable) into .claude/skills/refactoring in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill refactoring -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/refactoring in handsontable/handsontable) into .agents/skills/refactoring in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add handsontable/handsontable --skill refactoring -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/refactoring, .gemini/skills/refactoring, .github/skills/refactoring and .opencode/skills/refactoring in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Handsontable Refactoring Rules is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: A checkout of the Handsontable repository.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Handsontable Refactoring Rules has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 815 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
