At a glance

Sets the rules for writing Handsontable documentation examples in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular and Vue, with the imports, registration and licence key each needs.

  • Works in 3 steps: Base import and explicit registration… → licenseKey:… → Container: const container =…
  • Adding a code example to a Handsontable guide page
  • SKILL.md covers File structure, Rules, Required in every example and React (TSX/JSX), plus 4 more sections
  • Calls npm

What it does

The skill describes how example code in the Handsontable docs is organized. Each guide folder holds a markdown page and one subfolder per framework, and every example stays between 25 and 60 lines and teaches one idea, numbered from a basic setup to a more advanced one. The TypeScript or TSX file is written first, and the JavaScript version is produced with the repository's npm script instead of being edited by hand. Vue has no JavaScript variant.

Every example needs the base Handsontable import, explicit module registration, the non-commercial licence key and a container looked up by the example id. The Angular section is the most detailed: standalone components named AppComponent, an app.config.ts that sets the key globally, template control flow with @if and @for, inline styles and templates, inject() in place of constructor injection, and hook functions placed in the grid settings. Those limits exist because the docs site compiles Angular examples in the browser. A short React section covers the HotTable wrapper import.

When your agent uses it

  • Adding a code example to a Handsontable guide page
  • Writing the React, Angular or Vue variant of an existing docs example
  • Reviewing an example for missing registration or licence key
  • Generating the JavaScript file from a TypeScript example source

Example prompts

  • “Add a second example to the column sorting guide that shows a configuration variation.”
  • “Write the Angular version of the cell merging example for the docs site.”
  • “Check that example2.ts in the filtering guide registers its modules and sets the licence key.”

Requirements

  • A checkout of the Handsontable repository with its docs folder
  • npm, to run the docs code-example generator

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Base import and explicit registration (tree-shaking examples import individual plugins and cell types instead of registerAllModules())
  2. licenseKey: 'non-commercial-and-evaluation'
  3. Container: const container = document.querySelector('#example');

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 68b5e97. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • npm

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Creating Docs Code Examples loads about 2.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 47 tokens; SKILL.md has 720 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~47
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 720 words (~2,238 tokens).

“The docs site bootstraps Angular examples with JIT in the browser, which cannot load external files and lacks decorator metadata:”
