positioning-workshopRuns an adaptive question-and-answer session that surfaces target customer, unmet need, category, and differentiation.
Six steps move from gathering existing marketing materials and competitor intelligence through identifying the target segment, uncovering the underserved need through a jobs-to-be-done lens, defining category and benefits, and establishing competitive differentiation, ending in a complete Geoffrey Moore positioning statement. Questions adapt to context, B2B against B2C, a brand-new product against a repositioning effort, rather than following one fixed script, and the session deliberately forces a committed answer at each step instead of settling for a vague consensus.
6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1b5a524. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Positioning Discovery Workshop loads about 4.6k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 50 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,816 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,816 words (~4,575 tokens).
“Guide product managers through discovering and articulating product positioning by asking adaptive questions about target customers, unmet needs, product category, benefits, and competitive differentiation. Use this to align stakeholders on strategic positioning before writing PRDs, launch plans, or marketing materials—ensuring…”

Positioning Discovery Workshop fits situations like: messaging feels fuzzy, generic, or keeps losing to a named competitor; needing evidence-based positioning before a launch or PRD; aligning a team on target customer before writing marketing copy.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill positioning-workshop -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/positioning-workshop in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .claude/skills/positioning-workshop in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill positioning-workshop -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/positioning-workshop in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .agents/skills/positioning-workshop in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill positioning-workshop -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/positioning-workshop, .gemini/skills/positioning-workshop, .github/skills/positioning-workshop and .opencode/skills/positioning-workshop in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Positioning Discovery Workshop is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Positioning Discovery Workshop has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 4.6k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 18k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
