tam-sam-som-calculatorCalculates total, serviceable available and serviceable obtainable market size for a product idea with explicit assumptions, methods and caveats.
The skill guides product managers through sizing a market for a product idea and produces a structured, citation-backed estimate for investor pitches, budget requests or a check on product-market fit, rather than a back-of-the-envelope guess. It explains the three tiers: TAM is total demand with no constraints, SAM is the part of it your company can realistically reach given geography, firmographics, demographics or product limits, and SOM is the share you can actually obtain.
There are three entry modes. With your own numbers, such as population and ARPU figures, the helper script market-sizing.py does the math deterministically. A guided interview builds the inputs with up to 4 adaptive questions and is the default. In autonomous research mode the agent builds a bottom-up estimate from government statistics and filings while you review the evidence. Anything passed with the invocation counts as already answered, and you can start with nothing and be asked what you are sizing and for whom.
A template.md and an examples/sample.md ship with the skill. Its sample invocations include an AI scheduling assistant for independent dental practices and field-service dispatch software in the DACH region.

TAM SAM SOM Calculator loads about 4.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 45 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,760 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,760 words (~4,753 tokens).
“Guide product managers through calculating Total Addressable Market (TAM), Serviceable Available Market (SAM), and Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM) for a product idea by asking adaptive, contextually relevant questions. Use this to build defensible market size estimates backed by real-world citations…”

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, TAM SAM SOM Calculator needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python3). Our summary lists: Python, to run the bundled market-sizing script.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
TAM SAM SOM Calculator has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 4.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 19k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
