epic-hypothesisFrames an epic as a testable if-then hypothesis with a target user, expected outcome, small discovery experiments and validation measures.
The skill turns an initiative into a hypothesis rather than a requirements spec. The structure is: if we take an action or build a solution for a target persona, then we will reach a desirable outcome or job-to-be-done. It adds lightweight experiments called tiny acts of discovery, plus validation measures that state a timeframe and the quantitative and qualitative results that would show the hypothesis holds.
A sentence about the initiative is enough as input, and anything you supply with the invocation counts as already answered, so the agent skips those questions. With nothing supplied it asks what the initiative is and who it is for, then builds the hypothesis with you. The format is credited to Tim Herbig's Lean UX hypothesis approach. It lists anti-patterns, such as a feature spec like building a dashboard with five charts, and ships a template plus two worked examples, one of them industrial.

Epic Hypothesis Framing loads about 3.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 50 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,360 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,360 words (~3,152 tokens).

The skill turns an initiative into a hypothesis rather than a requirements spec. The structure is: if we take an action or build a solution for a target persona, then we will reach a desirable outcome or job-to-be-done.
Epic Hypothesis Framing fits situations like: defining a major initiative before roadmap or discovery planning; turning a feature idea into a testable bet with success criteria; choosing lightweight experiments before committing to a full build.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill epic-hypothesis -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/epic-hypothesis in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .claude/skills/epic-hypothesis in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill epic-hypothesis -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/epic-hypothesis in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .agents/skills/epic-hypothesis in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill epic-hypothesis -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/epic-hypothesis, .gemini/skills/epic-hypothesis, .github/skills/epic-hypothesis and .opencode/skills/epic-hypothesis in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Epic Hypothesis Framing is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: github.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Epic Hypothesis Framing has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 3.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 13k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
