At a glance

Reviews WooCommerce code changes against the project's standards, flagging backend PHP architecture, naming, documentation, data integrity and testing violations.

  • Works in 5 steps: Scan for critical violations listed above → Cite specific skill files when flagging… → Provide correct examples from the skill… → …
  • Reviewing a WooCommerce pull request before merge
  • SKILL.md covers Critical Violations to Flag, Review Approach, Output Format and Notes
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

The review defers to the `woocommerce-backend-dev` skill for detailed standards and flags violations like those it lists. On architecture, it flags standalone functions where class methods are required, `new` used for classes that the container manages in `src/` instead of `$container->get()`, and classes placed outside `src/Internal/` unless they are explicitly public. On naming, it flags camelCase instead of snake_case for methods, variables and hooks, Yoda condition violations and raw string literals where an enum constant exists, with an exception for install and upgrade code.

Documentation checks cover missing `@since` annotations on public and protected methods and hooks, missing docblocks and docblocks that are longer than a single line needs. A data-integrity check requires verifying state before deleting or modifying anything. Testing checks flag `$instance` where `$sut` is required, missing `@testdox` annotations and test files that break the naming convention for `includes/` versus `src/`. It is meant for local reviews and automated pull request reviews.

When your agent uses it

  • Reviewing a WooCommerce pull request before merge
  • Checking PHP changes for naming, docblock and dependency injection violations
  • Reviewing new unit tests for naming and annotation conventions

Example prompts

  • “Review my WooCommerce changes for coding-standards violations before I open a PR.”
  • “Check whether this new class should use the DI container and live under src/Internal.”
  • “Review the test file I added for $sut naming, @testdox annotations and file placement.”

Requirements

  • The `woocommerce-backend-dev` skill for the detailed standards

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Scan for critical violations listed above
  2. Cite specific skill files when flagging issues
  3. Provide correct examples from the skill documentation
  4. Group related issues for clarity
  5. Be constructive - explain why the standard exists when relevant

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 6173f77. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

WooCommerce Code Review loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 45 tokens; SKILL.md has 386 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 386 words (~1,132 tokens).
