codexDelegates code generation, editing and explanation tasks to the OpenAI Codex CLI, with commands for interactive, auto-edit, question-only and model-specific runs.
The skill treats Codex CLI as an agentic coding loop running GPT-4o with sandboxed code execution, useful when you want an OpenAI model, sandboxed execution, an alternative to Claude Code, or a comparison between providers. Setup is a global npm install of `@openai/codex` on Node.js 18 or newer. The skill then shows how to run a task in a project folder, run non-interactively with `--approval-mode auto-edit`, pick a model with `--model`, ask a question with `--question` so nothing is edited, generate a new module, and explain existing code.
Cautions apply. The `full-auto` approval mode applies every change without confirmation, so it should run on a clean Git branch, Codex bills against your OpenAI API key, and `OPENAI_API_KEY` must be set in the environment first. The examples are written for PowerShell on Windows.
7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3704204. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
codexnpmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
OPENAI_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
OpenAI Codex CLI Bridge loads about 826 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 12 tokens; SKILL.md has 270 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Run `npx skills add taracodlabs/aiden --skill codex -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/codex in taracodlabs/aiden) into .claude/skills/codex in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, OpenAI Codex CLI Bridge needs the command-line tools its instructions call (codex and npm) and credentials named OPENAI_API_KEY. Our summary lists: Node.js 18 or newer; The OpenAI Codex CLI installed with npm; An OpenAI API key in OPENAI_API_KEY.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
OpenAI Codex CLI Bridge is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 826 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
