At a glance

Spawns subagents that each model one opponent or player in a strategic scenario, then merges their JSON moves for wargames and multi-party analysis.

  • Works in 5 steps: Parallel when independent — multi-party… → Sequential when dependent — turn-by-turn… → Token discipline — agents return… → …
  • Wargaming a negotiation against a capable counterpart
  • SKILL.md covers When to Use Subagents, Host Agent Patterns, Orchestration Rules and Output Discipline, plus 1 more section
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

The skill runs as `/palpatine:adversary` in Claude Code or `$palpatine:adversary` in Codex, and can also trigger on its own for wargames against capable opponents, scenarios with three or more players, and counter mode with tangled stakeholder dynamics. It states when subagents are worth the cost: several independent perspectives at once, opponents sophisticated enough to model separately, or a request for deep multi-party analysis. A single obvious opponent, a simple two-party case or a quick read does not need them.

A controller defines JSON schemas for a single adversary and for each player. Agents return raw JSON with keys such as move, alliance, threat, price and threatLevel, which the controller validates and corrects once before treating the answer as a gap. Host adapters explain how to spawn agents in Codex and in Claude Code, and multi-party runs go out in bounded waves, with at most five player models per invocation and only independent players in parallel.

When your agent uses it

  • Wargaming a negotiation against a capable counterpart
  • Analyzing a scenario with three or more parties and competing interests
  • Mapping stakeholder dynamics before choosing a counter move

Example prompts

  • “Wargame our contract renewal against the vendor, the reseller and their new CFO.”
  • “Model how each of the four competitors would respond if we cut prices next quarter.”
  • “Run an adversary simulation on the board dispute and give me each party's likely move and price.”

Requirements

  • An agent host that can spawn subagents, such as Claude Code or Codex

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Parallel when independent — multi-party analysis, initial player modeling
  2. Sequential when dependent — turn-by-turn wargaming where each move depends on prior
  3. Token discipline — agents return structured data, synthesis happens in main context
  4. Cap player models — at most five total player models per invocation, never exceeding available worker slots in one wave
  5. No recursive spawning — agents don't spawn their own subagents

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 53a3ac4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are javascript and markdown).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Adversary Simulation loads about 4.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 684 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~4.7k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 684 words (~4,652 tokens).

When should I use Adversary Simulation?

Adversary Simulation fits situations like: wargaming a negotiation against a capable counterpart; analyzing a scenario with three or more parties and competing interests; mapping stakeholder dynamics before choosing a counter move.

How do I install Adversary Simulation in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add NovusEdge/palpatine --skill adversary -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/palpatine/skills/adversary in NovusEdge/palpatine) into .claude/skills/adversary in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Adversary Simulation in Codex?

Run `npx skills add NovusEdge/palpatine --skill adversary -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/palpatine/skills/adversary in NovusEdge/palpatine) into .agents/skills/adversary in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Adversary Simulation in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add NovusEdge/palpatine --skill adversary -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/adversary, .gemini/skills/adversary, .github/skills/adversary and .opencode/skills/adversary in your project.

What does Adversary Simulation need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Adversary Simulation is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: An agent host that can spawn subagents, such as Claude Code or Codex.

Does Adversary Simulation access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Adversary Simulation safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Adversary Simulation use?

Adversary Simulation has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.

How many tokens does Adversary Simulation use?

About 4.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 19k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Adversary Simulation?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Adversary Simulation: Paseo Advisor Second Opinion (getpaseo/paseo, 20k stars), O2 Review Loop (openobserve/openobserve, 22k stars), Harness Agent Team Designer (revfactory/harness, 9.1k stars) and ClawTeam Multi-Agent Swarm (win4r/ClawTeam-OpenClaw, 1.5k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
