competitive-analysisTurns a competitor set into a decision-ready brief: profiles, pricing and packaging comparisons, a positioning map, a SWOT and recommended moves for operators and founders.
This skill frames a competitive analysis around the decision it has to support instead of producing a generic market dump. It first gathers the company or product, the target decision, the audience (operator, investor, partnership, board or internal team), the ideal customer profile, the competitor set or permission to discover it, and pricing context when pricing matters.
The process builds the competitor set, using your list or identifying close direct and adjacent competitors with confidence labels. It always compares positioning and target customer, adds pricing and packaging only when public evidence exists, and covers product scope, distribution, momentum signals and threats where relevant. Findings are separated into facts, inferences and open questions, with notes on where the market is crowded, under-served or misread, and the result is an operator-ready brief of market map, major competitors and recommended moves.
Optionally the skill searches Open Brain for prior notes before repeating known findings and stores the final brief there. It is not for financial model critique, source-heavy research synthesis, investment memo drafting or meeting transcript cleanup, which other named skills handle.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 238df6c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Competitive Analysis Brief loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 130 tokens; SKILL.md has 525 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 525 words (~1,116 tokens).
“Teams often ask for competitive analysis when they really need a decision-ready view of the market: who matters, how they position, where pricing diverges, what gaps are open, and which moves are worth making now.”

Turns a competitor set into a decision-ready brief: profiles, pricing and packaging comparisons, a positioning map, a SWOT and recommended moves for operators and founders. It first gathers the company or product, the target decision, the audience (operator, investor, partnership, board or internal team), the ideal customer profile, the competitor set or permission to discover it, and pricing context when pricing matters.
Competitive Analysis Brief fits situations like: profiling competitors before a pricing, roadmap or positioning decision; comparing pricing and packaging across a known competitor set; preparing a SWOT or positioning map for a strategy session; scanning a market for risks, opportunities and recommended moves.
Run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill competitive-analysis -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/competitive-analysis in NateBJones-Projects/OB1) into .claude/skills/competitive-analysis in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill competitive-analysis -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/competitive-analysis in NateBJones-Projects/OB1) into .agents/skills/competitive-analysis in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add NateBJones-Projects/OB1 --skill competitive-analysis -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/competitive-analysis, .gemini/skills/competitive-analysis, .github/skills/competitive-analysis and .opencode/skills/competitive-analysis in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Competitive Analysis Brief is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Optional: an Open Brain setup for searching prior notes and saving the final brief.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Competitive Analysis Brief has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
