cmux-settingsReads and changes cmux preferences in `~/.config/cmux/cmux.json` through a helper that validates each change before writing, covering terminal, browser, viewers and shortcuts.
cmux reads its settings from a JSONC file at `~/.config/cmux/cmux.json`, and a watcher applies changes when the file is saved, with no restart. An older `settings.json` is read only as a fallback for keys missing from the new file. Settings sections include app, terminal, notifications, sidebar, browser, markdown, file editor, file explorer, diff viewer and shortcuts, and some non-settings sections such as actions and commands share the same file.
All reads and writes go through the bundled `cmux-settings` helper. It supports commands such as `path`, `dump` (with or without comments), `get` for a dotted JSON path and `set` for a value parsed as JSON, validates the whole proposed document with `cmux config validate` before writing, and writes atomically unless the change would add a new validation issue. Existing issues, such as a key from a newer cmux, do not block unrelated edits. Lists of every recognized key and of shortcut actions are bundled as references, and the agent is told not to invent a `templates` path for viewers because the published schema is authoritative.

cmux Settings Editor loads about 2.3k tokens when it runs, and up to ~14k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 121 tokens; SKILL.md has 947 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 947 words (~2,312 tokens).
“cmux reads user settings from ~/.config/cmux/cmux.json (JSONC). A file watcher applies changes on save, no restart. Legacy ~/.config/cmux/settings.json is read only as a fallback for keys absent from cmux.json.”

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, cmux Settings Editor needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (rg). Our summary lists: cmux, including its `cmux config validate` command; Python, for the bundled JSONC editing helper.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
cmux Settings Editor has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 2.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 9.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 12k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
