start-my-daySearches arXiv for recent papers matching your research interests, scores them and writes a daily recommendation note into an Obsidian vault.
This skill is written mostly in Chinese and generates a daily paper brief to open a research day. It reads a research_interests.yaml config in the 99_System/Config folder of your Obsidian vault, scans existing notes under 20_Research/Papers to build a keyword-to-note index for automatic links, then runs scripts/search_arxiv.py to query the arXiv API for recent papers in the relevant categories.
The script fetches up to 200 recent papers, parses the XML, filters them by your interests and ranks them with a combined score that weights relevance, recency, popularity and quality, keeping the top 10 in arxiv_filtered.json. The report language, Chinese by default or English, comes from a language field in the config. The description also mentions Semantic Scholar recommendations, and further scripts handle keyword linking and common-word filtering.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ef3a594. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

Daily arXiv Paper Brief loads about 4.3k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 46 tokens; SKILL.md has 758 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 758 words (~4,317 tokens).
“This skill supports both Chinese and English reports. The language is determined by the language field in your config file:”

Daily arXiv Paper Brief fits situations like: starting a research day with fresh arXiv paper recommendations; generating a paper brief for a specified date; filling an Obsidian vault with scored, auto-linked paper notes.
Run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill start-my-day -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (start-my-day in juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv) into .claude/skills/start-my-day in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill start-my-day -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (start-my-day in juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv) into .agents/skills/start-my-day in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill start-my-day -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/start-my-day, .gemini/skills/start-my-day, .github/skills/start-my-day and .opencode/skills/start-my-day in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Daily arXiv Paper Brief needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python). Our summary lists: An Obsidian vault with OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH set; A research_interests.yaml config file in the vault; Python for the search scripts; Network access to the arXiv API.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
No licence was found for Daily arXiv Paper Brief or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.
About 4.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 17k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Daily arXiv Paper Brief: Paper Research on arXiv (XiaomiMiMo/MiMo-Code, 14k stars), Literature Review (K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills, 48k stars), PaperSeek Literature Search (MingfengHong/paperseek, 0 stars) and Literature Search (gaasher/Agent-Loop-Skills, 174 stars).
