paper-searchSearches already-saved paper notes in a local Obsidian vault by title, author, keyword, tag, field or arXiv ID, and ranks the matches by relevance.
Given a query, the agent first works out whether it is a title, author, keyword, field or tag search, pulls out the main required terms plus any optional or excluded keywords, and decides whether to search every field or one in particular. It then greps the Papers folder under 20_Research rather than reading full files, checking titles, the authors field in frontmatter, document content, or a field-specific folder depending on the search type.
Matches are scored by where the hit occurred: a title match counts for the most, an author or field match next, and a tag or content match less. Papers containing an excluded keyword are dropped, and results are grouped by research field with title, author, date, a link to the note and a relevance score, using wikilink-style links. If nothing matches, the agent suggests other keywords or widening the scope instead of returning an empty result.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ef3a594. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Obsidian Paper Notes Search loads about 481 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 51 tokens; SKILL.md has 103 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 103 words (~481 tokens).

Obsidian Paper Notes Search fits situations like: finding a previously saved paper note by title or author; searching your paper vault by keyword or tag; combining a field and a keyword to narrow a search.
Run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill paper-search -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (paper-search in juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv) into .claude/skills/paper-search in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill paper-search -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (paper-search in juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv) into .agents/skills/paper-search in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add juliye2025/evil-read-arxiv --skill paper-search -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/paper-search, .gemini/skills/paper-search, .github/skills/paper-search and .opencode/skills/paper-search in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Obsidian Paper Notes Search needs Python for the scripts in its folder. Our summary lists: An Obsidian vault with paper notes stored under 20_Research/Papers.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
No licence was found for Obsidian Paper Notes Search or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.
About 481 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Obsidian Paper Notes Search: Deeppapernote (917Dhj/DeepPaperNote, 1.2k stars), Lit Review (GRIND-Lab-Core/night_owl_research_agent, 106 stars), Nature Reader (jing1312/nature-figure-skill, 171 stars) and Zotero Obsidian Bridge (Galaxy-Dawn/claude-scholar, 5.7k stars).
