discovery-interview-prepGuides product managers through planning customer discovery interviews, from research goal and segment to method, question framework and success criteria.
The skill is an interactive prep process, not a script generator. It asks adaptive questions about your research goal, the customer segment, access constraints such as how many interviews you can get and by when, and any hypotheses you carry in. Anything you supply with the invocation counts as already answered, and if you arrive with nothing it opens by asking for the primary goal and narrows from there.
The flow gathers product and problem context, defines what you want to learn, identifies the target segment, recommends a method such as Jobs-to-be-Done, problem validation or switch interviews, and produces an interview framework with questions, biases to avoid and success metrics. It calls out leading questions, confirmation bias and solution-first thinking, and it states that discovery interviews are not user-testing scripts, sales demos or broad surveys, aiming instead at deep qualitative conversations with roughly 5 to 10 people.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1b5a524. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown).

Discovery Interview Prep loads about 4.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 52 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,665 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,665 words (~4,749 tokens).
“Guide product managers through preparing for customer discovery interviews by asking adaptive questions about research goals, customer segments, constraints, and methodologies. Use this to design effective interview plans, craft targeted questions, avoid common biases, and maximize learning from limited customer…”

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill discovery-interview-prep -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/discovery-interview-prep, .gemini/skills/discovery-interview-prep, .github/skills/discovery-interview-prep and .opencode/skills/discovery-interview-prep in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Discovery Interview Prep is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Discovery Interview Prep has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 4.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 19k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
