lsp-setupDetects which languages a project uses, installs the matching language server, writes its config and checks it with a real call so diagnostics and go-to-definition work.
This is an index skill for getting the lsp tools (diagnostics, go to definition, find references, symbols and rename) working in a project. It begins with a language gate: identify the language from file extensions, then read the matching per-language reference before installing or configuring anything. The table covers about twenty languages, among them TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, C and C++, Java, Kotlin, C#, Swift, Ruby, PHP, Dart, Elixir, Zig, Lua, Bash, YAML, Terraform, Haskell and Julia.
The workflow runs detect, install, configure, verify. A Bun script, scripts/detect-lsp.ts, scans a project directory and prints, for every detected language, the built-in server id, the executable it needs on PATH, whether that executable is installed, an install hint and whether a project config file already mentions it; a --json flag gives machine-readable output. Install commands come from the language's own reference, followed by a check that the executable resolves. Configuration is then written and tested with a real round trip.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cbd7dd2. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/, which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
buncurlbashFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
bun.shFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
LSP Setup loads about 1.4k tokens when it runs, and up to ~13k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 501 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
Run with [Bun](https://bun.sh): `curl -fsSL https://bun.sh/install | bash`.Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 501 words (~1,386 tokens).
“Configure the right Language Server for a project so the lsp MCP tools (diagnostics, goto_definition, find_references, symbols, rename) actually work. This skill is an index: detect what a project needs, install the server, write the config, then verify with a…”

LSP Setup fits situations like: an agent reports a 'no LSP server configured' error for a project; setting up diagnostics and go-to-definition for a language the project has not used before; checking which language servers in a repository are installed and wired up.
Run `npx skills add code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent --skill lsp-setup -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (packages/shared-skills/skills/lsp-setup in code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent) into .claude/skills/lsp-setup in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent --skill lsp-setup -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (packages/shared-skills/skills/lsp-setup in code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent) into .agents/skills/lsp-setup in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add code-yeongyu/oh-my-openagent --skill lsp-setup -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/lsp-setup, .gemini/skills/lsp-setup, .github/skills/lsp-setup and .opencode/skills/lsp-setup in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, LSP Setup needs the command-line tools its instructions call (bun, curl and bash). Our summary lists: Bun to run scripts/detect-lsp.ts.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: bun.sh; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pipes a well-known installer script into a shell), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
LSP Setup has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.4k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 12k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with LSP Setup: Release (PrefectHQ/fastmcp, 28k stars), LangBot Plugin Development (langbot-app/LangBot, 18k stars), Library Documentation Seeker (withkynam/vibecode-pro-max-kit, 1.1k stars) and Release Prep (johnhuang316/code-index-mcp, 1k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
