At a glance

Investigates a LazyCodex or Codex CLI defect, decides which GitHub repository owns it, and drafts an evidence-backed issue or pull request with repro steps.

  • Works in 9 steps: Read the user's bug report and identify… → Invoke $omo:debugging for the… → Materialize the latest LazyCodex and… → …
  • Reporting a bug in LazyCodex, lazycodex-ai or the omo-codex plugin
  • SKILL.md covers Goal, Required Workflow, Required Label And Footer and Issue Body Template, plus 5 more sections
  • Calls git and gh; reaches github.com

What it does

Each bug is routed to the repository that owns it. Problems in LazyCodex itself, such as the installer, bundled skills, hooks, MCP servers, packaging or the marketplace, go to the code-yeongyu/lazycodex repo and are always filed as issues, never pull requests, because that repo is regenerated from source on every release. Defects in the upstream Codex CLI that reproduce without LazyCodex go to openai/codex, the only repo where this skill may open a pull request.

Before filing anything it runs an investigation through the OMO debugging skill: at least three hypotheses, the smallest reproduction that exercises the real surface, and confirmation of the root cause by observing the failing state. It pulls the latest sources into a scratch directory to check ownership and line references. The English report covers environment, reproduction steps, expected and actual behavior, root cause, a fix approach with the likely files, a verification plan and a lazycodex-generated label and footer tag.

When your agent uses it

  • Reporting a bug in LazyCodex, lazycodex-ai or the omo-codex plugin
  • Working out whether a defect belongs to LazyCodex or to upstream Codex CLI
  • Filing an upstream Codex CLI bug with a source-backed root cause
  • Turning a half-understood failure into a reproducible issue maintainers can act on

Example prompts

  • “File a bug for the LazyCodex installer failing to link the lazycodex-ai command on my machine.”
  • “A Codex hook stops firing after a plugin update. Work out who owns the bug and open an issue.”
  • “Report this upstream Codex CLI crash with a reproduction and a suggested fix.”

Requirements

  • GitHub access for opening issues or pull requests
  • The OMO debugging skill
  • Network access to fetch LazyCodex and Codex sources

Workflow steps

9 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Read the user's bug report and identify the affected surface: LazyCodex installer, Codex plugin, skill, hook, MCP, CLI alias, GitHub…
  2. Invoke $omo:debugging for the investigation. If Codex exposes only unqualified skill names in the current session, invoke $debugging and…
  3. Materialize the latest LazyCodex and upstream Codex sources under LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT="${LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT:-${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/lazycodex…
  4. Follow the debugging skill far enough to gather runtime evidence
  5. Compare runtime evidence with both $LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT/lazycodex-source and $LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT/chatgpt-subscription-source before…
  6. Choose the target repo
  7. Search for an existing issue in the selected repo before creating a new one. Search the other repo too when the ownership boundary is close
  8. If a matching open issue exists, add a comment with the new evidence instead of creating a duplicate.
  9. Ensure the generated label exists in repositories you control

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cbd7dd2. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • gh

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

LazyCodex Bug Reporter loads about 3k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 84 tokens; SKILL.md has 996 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~84
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~3k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 996 words (~3,025 tokens).

“You are a LazyCodex bug router and reporter. Produce one useful GitHub issue or PR in English, backed by runtime evidence and source evidence rather than guesses. Route it to the repository that owns the defect:”
