At a glance

Debugs a concrete LazyCodex or upstream Codex defect, builds the smallest verified fix in a fresh temporary workspace, and routes the deliverable to the right repository and format.

  • Works in 4 steps: Read the user's bug report and identify… → Invoke $omo:debugging for the… → Materialize the latest sources under… → …
  • Fixing a reported LazyCodex or bundled-skill bug with a verified patch
  • SKILL.md covers Required Outcome, Required Workflow, Verified-Fix Issue Template… and PR Body Generator (openai/codex), plus 2 more sections
  • Runs JavaScript scripts from its folder; calls git, gh and node; reaches github.com

What it does

Ownership decides the deliverable. For LazyCodex, lazycodex-ai, omo-codex, bundled skills, hooks, MCP wiring, installer behavior or packaging, the target repository is a generated distribution mirror regenerated from source on every release, so the skill never opens a pull request there; instead it opens a verified-fix issue with the patch as a unified diff, reproduction logs, the root cause with source evidence, verification logs, a label and a footer tag. For upstream Codex CLI bugs that reproduce without LazyCodex, the deliverable is a pull request from a fork, built on a focused branch from a fresh clone, with the same logs, fix, label and tag, plus cleanup afterward.

The required workflow reads the bug report, invokes the project's own debugging skill for the investigation, then materializes the latest sources under a shared temporary source root, syncing both possible target checkouts on every run and comparing them before choosing where the fix belongs, validating any cached checkout before reuse so an incomplete git directory cannot route the fix to the wrong repository. A bundled script helps assemble the final PR body.

When your agent uses it

  • Fixing a reported LazyCodex or bundled-skill bug with a verified patch
  • Fixing an upstream Codex CLI bug that reproduces without LazyCodex
  • Deciding whether a bug fix should become an issue or a pull request
  • Producing reproduction and verification logs before and after a fix

Example prompts

  • “Debug this LazyCodex installer bug and open a verified-fix issue with the patch.”
  • “This looks like a Codex core bug, not a LazyCodex one. Fix it and open a fork PR.”
  • “Reproduce this defect, fix it in a fresh clone, and give me the before and after logs.”

Requirements

  • Git, to clone and work in a fresh temporary workspace

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Read the user's bug report and identify the affected surface.
  2. Invoke $omo:debugging for the investigation. If only unqualified skill names are exposed, invoke $debugging and state that it is the OMO…
  3. Materialize the latest sources under LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT="${LAZYCODEX_SOURCE_ROOT:-${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/lazycodex-sources}", then decide the…
  4. Create a fresh temporary clone and branch under ${TMPDIR:-/tmp}. Do not modify the user's current repository for the target fix unless the…

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ab81169. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships 1 file in scripts/ (JavaScript), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • gh
    • node

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

LazyCodex Bug Fix Contribution loads about 2.8k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 119 tokens; SKILL.md has 773 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~119
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.8k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 773 words (~2,833 tokens).

“Use this skill to debug a concrete LazyCodex or Codex defect, implement the smallest correct fix in a fresh temporary workspace, and deliver it. Work in English, keep the body short, and support every claim with runtime or source evidence.”
