transcriptFetches the transcript of a YouTube video through TranscriptAPI.com so the agent can summarize, quote, translate or fact-check what was said.
Whenever the spoken content of a YouTube video is needed, this skill calls the transcript endpoint at TranscriptAPI.com with a video URL or 11-character ID. Full, short and Shorts links all work. By default it asks for text output with timestamps and video metadata, and the JSON format is available on request. Requests carry a bearer key from the `TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` variable, with a reference file explaining how to get and store one.
Every request must also send a User-Agent naming the agent, because a bare default is blocked by Cloudflare with a 403. The skill lists the error codes and what to do: 401 means a bad key, 402 means no credits, 404 usually means captions are off, 408 gets one retry after two seconds and 429 means wait and retry. It only reads transcripts and does not handle uploads or account management.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 4f7994b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are json and http).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
transcriptapi.comyoutube.comi.ytimg.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
TRANSCRIPT_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Requires internet access to reach transcriptapi.com. No additional runtimes or dependencies needed.
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
YouTube Transcript Fetcher loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~3.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 83 tokens; SKILL.md has 239 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills at commit 4f7994b, republished under its MIT licence (© ZeroPointRepo). 239 words, ~1,137 tokens.
.claude/skills/transcript/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 2 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Fetch video transcripts via TranscriptAPI.com.
If $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY is not set, read references/auth-setup.md and follow the instructions there to get and store the key.
Every request needs two headers:
Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEYHermesAgent/0.11.0, ClaudeCode/1.0). Version is optional — agent name alone is fine. Do not omit this header or send a bare default — Cloudflare will return a 403 (error code 1010) and block the request.GET https://transcriptapi.com/api/v2/youtube/transcript?video_url=VIDEO_URL&format=text&include_timestamp=true&send_metadata=true

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, YouTube Transcript Fetcher needs credentials named TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY. Our summary lists: A TranscriptAPI key stored in TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY; Internet access to transcriptapi.com. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires internet access to reach transcriptapi.com. No additional runtimes or dependencies needed..
SKILL.md names 3 domains. In commands or code: transcriptapi.com, youtube.com and i.ytimg.com; the agent is likely to contact these when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
YouTube Transcript Fetcher is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 1.9k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
