What it does

Export is an agent skill from with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist. Produce the files an engine actually consumes — spritesheets with atlases, GIFs, scaled PNGs — with the tags and layout the target needs. Use when work is finished and needs to leave Aseprite.

Its SKILL.md is about 630 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Game Development, covering Sprites and pixel art. It works with Model Context Protocol. The repository describes itself as: Your coding agent paints pixel art in the Aseprite window you already have open. MCP server + skills for Claude Code, omp, Codex, Gemini CLI and Cursor — draws, looks at its…. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/export”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit f51fe69. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Export loads about 628 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 50 tokens; SKILL.md has 293 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~50
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~628

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Export game-ready assets

Ask what consumes it

The target decides the format, and guessing produces files someone has to re-export. If you do not know, ask — it is one question.

TargetWants
UnitySpritesheet PNG + JSON atlas, byTag split
GodotSpritesheet PNG, or .aseprite via an importer plugin
Web / canvasSpritesheet PNG + JSON
Preview for a humanGIF, or a scaled PNG
Print / socialPNG at 4–8×

Before exporting

Run aseprite:review. Exporting broken art just distributes it.

Then check specifically:

  • Tags exist and are named the way the engine expects — idle, walk, attack. validate errors on untagged multi-frame sprites.
  • The reference layer is deleted or hidden, and so is the sketch layer.
  • Frame durations are set. GIF and most engines read them from the file.

Exporting

Spritesheet with atlas — what an engine usually wants:

export op="spritesheet" path="…/knight.png" sheetType="packed" byTag=true padding=1

padding prevents texture bleed at non-integer zoom, which shows up as a thin line of the neighbouring frame along a sprite's edge. Use 1 unless the engine says otherwise.

The JSON atlas is written beside the PNG and carries per-frame rectangles and per-tag ranges.

9-patch panels and hotspots — sprite_manage op="slice_create" names a region with an optional center (the stretchable middle, for 9-slicing) or pivot. Create slices before exporting; a spritesheet export carries them into its JSON atlas alongside the per-frame rectangles.

Animation preview for a human:

export op="gif" path="…/walk.gif"

Scaled PNG — for a store page or a README:

export op="png" path="…/knight@8x.png" scale=8

Integer scale only. Nearest-neighbour. Any other kind of resize destroys the thing you made.

Save the source

Exporting does not save the working document.

sprite_manage op="save"

The .aseprite file is the asset. The PNG is a build artifact.

Report

List the files you wrote, their dimensions, the frame count and the tags. That is what the person wiring them into the engine needs.

When should I use Export?

Export fits situations like: work is finished and needs to leave Aseprite; tasks that involve Sprites and pixel art.

How do I install Export in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist --skill export -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/export in with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist) into .claude/skills/export in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Export in Codex?

Run `npx skills add with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist --skill export -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/export in with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist) into .agents/skills/export in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Export in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add with-pebbly/aseprite-ai-artist --skill export -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/export, .gemini/skills/export, .github/skills/export and .opencode/skills/export in your project.

What does Export need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Export is instructions for the agent only.

Does Export access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Export safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Export use?

Export is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Export use?

About 628 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Export?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Export: Sprite Gen (aldegad/sprite-gen, 2.6k stars), Fal Assets (rehan-remade/universal-modder, 5.3k stars), Game Assets (glifxyz/glif-mcp-server, 212 stars) and Scenario Game Assets (scenario-labs/skills, 913 stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
