rust-backendSets Rust conventions for the Windmill backend: error types, SQLx queries, JSON handling, async rules, module layout and rust-analyzer navigation.
The skill applies when writing or changing Rust in the backend directory. Errors use Error from windmill_common::error with Result or JsonResult return types, library code never panics, and unwrap is reserved for compile-time guarantees. SQLx queries list columns explicitly instead of using SELECT *, which keeps older workers compatible with a newer API, use batch operations and ANY clauses to avoid N+1 queries, wrap multi-step work in transactions and parameterize everything.
For JSON it prefers a boxed RawValue over serde_json::Value unless the data is inspected or modified, and it uses serde skip_serializing_if optimizations. Async rules include spawn_blocking for CPU-heavy work, std or parking_lot mutexes unless a lock is held across await, bounded tokio mpsc channels and no thread sleep. Visibility defaults to pub(crate), API endpoints go in windmill-api, shared code in windmill-common, and rust-analyzer handles navigation. A final section on feature telemetry allowlists was cut off in the excerpt.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit eab3dd5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Windmill Rust Backend Patterns loads about 869 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 33 tokens; SKILL.md has 236 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 236 words (~869 tokens).

Windmill Rust Backend Patterns fits situations like: writing a new endpoint or job handler in the Windmill backend; reviewing Rust code for SQLx and error-handling conventions; choosing between std and tokio mutexes in async backend code; placing new code in the right crate.
Run `npx skills add windmill-labs/windmill --skill rust-backend -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/rust-backend in windmill-labs/windmill) into .claude/skills/rust-backend in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add windmill-labs/windmill --skill rust-backend -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/rust-backend in windmill-labs/windmill) into .agents/skills/rust-backend in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add windmill-labs/windmill --skill rust-backend -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/rust-backend, .gemini/skills/rust-backend, .github/skills/rust-backend and .opencode/skills/rust-backend in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Windmill Rust Backend Patterns is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: A Windmill checkout with the Rust toolchain and rust-analyzer.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Windmill Rust Backend Patterns has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 869 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
