The skill searches the web for current tax regulations, rates and policy changes using Tavily, sourced from government and authoritative legal databases. It first identifies the tax type (corporate income tax, VAT, personal income tax, stamp duty and so on), the jurisdiction and how time-sensitive the question is, asking clarifying questions when the request is vague.
It builds targeted Chinese-language search queries, such as pairing a tax type with the current year and a policy source like the State Taxation Administration, and runs them through the search_web tool or a fallback script in scripts/search_tax_law.py. Results from .gov.cn domains are prioritized, publication dates are checked, and multiple sources are cross-referenced before the findings are presented in a structured format with the topic and search date.
Error handling covers a failed search API (retry once, then tell the user), a missing TAVILY_API_KEY (fall back to general tax knowledge) and rate limiting. Gotchas noted include that Chinese tax rules change at the start of each year, local tax bureaus can add their own implementing rules, VAT rates vary by industry, and small-scale taxpayers follow different rates.
