echoes-initInitialize, migrate, or repair the agent-neutral EchoesVault structure, portable runtime, and Codex/OpenCode/Claude adapters for the current project.
Echoes Init is an agent skill from psinetron/echoes-vault-codex. Initialize, migrate, or repair the agent-neutral EchoesVault structure, portable runtime, and Codex/OpenCode/Claude adapters for the current project. Use when the user asks in any language to initialize, activate, set up, connect, migrate, or bootstrap EchoesVault or persistent local Markdown project memory.
Its SKILL.md is about 630 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Agent memory. The repository describes itself as: Persistent memory plugin for Codex. Obsidian-style knowledge base that survives across sessions. The licence is MIT.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 0b8ff17. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Echoes Init loads about 631 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 80 tokens; SKILL.md has 248 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from psinetron/echoes-vault-codex at commit 0b8ff17, republished under its MIT licence (© psinetron). 248 words, ~631 tokens.
.claude/skills/echoes-init/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 1 other file; get the full folder from GitHub.Interpret the request semantically in the user's language. Do not require the exact skill name or an English command; equivalent requests in any language should use this workflow.
Resolve <workspace> as the Git root when one exists, otherwise the current working directory.
Resolve <plugin-root> as the parent of the skills/ directory that contains this SKILL.md.
Initialization and upgrades must use the bundled <plugin-root>/scripts/echoes_vault.py; it safely
installs or upgrades the repository-portable runtime without allowing an older copy to overwrite a
newer one.
Run:
python3 <plugin-root>/scripts/echoes_vault.py --workspace <workspace> \
--agent codex --adapter-version 1.1.1 initRead <workspace>/EchoesVault/index.md.
If it contains page entries, briefly list their concepts. Otherwise, state that a fresh vault is ready.
Explain that $echoes-start restores recent context and $echoes-end performs the explicit final save.
Initialization is idempotent. It never overwrites a knowledge page, log, raw source, or asset.
index.md is a generated local view: the CLI validates page frontmatter, migrates legacy index
descriptions into missing summary fields when possible, and deterministically rebuilds the index.
Do not ask the model to read every page or construct the index itself.
The bundled launcher is used only to bootstrap, explicitly upgrade, or recover a missing project
runtime. It installs the compatible runtime and re-executes the command through
<workspace>/.echoes-vault/echoes_vault.py. A newer compatible project runtime is never downgraded.

Brings project docs, agent rule files, authorized memory and leftover workspace files back in line with what the code and runtime actually do at the end of a work session.
thedotmack/claude-mem
Searches the user's persistent cross-session memory for timestamped observations synthesized from past agent sessions on cmem.ai.
gastownhall/beads
Tracks multi-session work with dependencies in the bd issue tracker so the agent can find ready tasks and recover its context after conversation compaction.

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Echoes Init is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Python 3.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 631 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
