mem-searchSearches the user's persistent cross-session memory for timestamped observations synthesized from past agent sessions on cmem.ai.
This skill runs a bundled, dependency-free CLI script against a configured API key, following an index-then-narrow discipline: one to three broad keyword searches first, skimming only titles and summaries, then a narrower re-search with the most specific terms or exact phrases found, before synthesizing an answer rather than dumping raw results at the user.
It reports a missing API key, or a 404 on a newer endpoint, in plain language rather than as a bare error, since search still works through an older endpoint either way, and it warns against ever putting secrets into a search query since queries are sent to the remote service.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Claude-Mem Search loads about 511 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 80 tokens; SKILL.md has 213 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/mem-search/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Search the user's persistent Claude-Mem memory on cmem.ai. Memory contains timestamped observations synthesized from past sessions across all their agents (Claude Code, Cowork, Codex, and others).
Run the bundled CLI (no dependencies, uses the plugin's configured API key):
node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/cmem-hook.mjs" search "your query" --limit 20Follow claude-mem's Index → Timeline → Transcript discipline — cheap passes first, expensive detail only for confirmed hits:
--limit.Do not dump raw search output at the user; extract the relevant observations and answer in plain language.
If searches return nothing or error:
node "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/cmem-hook.mjs" statusReport the status output plainly: a MISSING api key means the plugin needs the
user's cmem.ai key added to its configuration; a 404 on /api/hooks/context
just means the newer Pro endpoint isn't deployed — search still works via
/api/mcp.

Claude-Mem Search fits situations like: recalling what was done in a previous session on this project; searching past observations for a decision, file, or task; checking the status of the memory connection.
Run `npx skills add thedotmack/claude-mem --skill mem-search -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (cowork/skills/mem-search in thedotmack/claude-mem) into .claude/skills/mem-search in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add thedotmack/claude-mem --skill mem-search -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (cowork/skills/mem-search in thedotmack/claude-mem) into .agents/skills/mem-search in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add thedotmack/claude-mem --skill mem-search -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/mem-search, .gemini/skills/mem-search, .github/skills/mem-search and .opencode/skills/mem-search in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Claude-Mem Search needs the command-line tools its instructions call (node). Our summary lists: A cmem.ai API key configured for the plugin.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Claude-Mem Search is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 511 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
