What it does

Echoes End is an agent skill from psinetron/echoes-vault-codex. Explicitly finalize an EchoesVault session by distilling the current conversation into a dense daily summary and durable knowledge pages, then regenerating the deterministic index. Use only when the user asks to end, wrap up, finalize, or save the session to EchoesVault, or explicitly invokes echoes-end. Never trigger merely because an ordinary task finished.

Its SKILL.md is about 670 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Agent Workflows. The repository describes itself as: Persistent memory plugin for Codex. Obsidian-style knowledge base that survives across sessions. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Save the session to EchoesVault
  • Explicitly invokes echoes-end
  • Merely because an ordinary task finished

Example prompts

  • “/echoes-end”

Requirements

  • Python 3

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Distill final outcomes, verified fixes, decisions, unresolved blockers, and concrete next steps. Do not write a transcript.
  2. Treat scratchpad notes already written today as supporting context; do not duplicate them verbatim.
  3. Search and read relevant existing pages before proposing page changes.
  4. For every existing page update, run hash after reading it and include the returned sha256 as expectedSha256.
  5. Prefer deprecation plus a replacement page over deleting historical documentation.
  6. Give every new or updated page a non-empty, single-line summary of at most 160 characters.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 0b8ff17. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are json).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Echoes End loads about 665 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 93 tokens; SKILL.md has 262 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~93
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~665

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Distill and save the session

Resolve <workspace> as the Git root when one exists, otherwise the current working directory. Resolve <plugin-root> as the parent of the skills/ directory that contains this SKILL.md. Use <plugin-root>/scripts/echoes_vault.py as <launcher>. It delegates execution to a compatible project runtime, recovers a missing runtime for an initialized vault, refuses an outdated runtime until explicit upgrade, and never downgrades a newer one.

Prepare

  4. For every existing page update, run hash <filename> after reading it and include the returned sha256 as expectedSha256.
  5. Prefer deprecation plus a replacement page over deleting historical documentation.
  6. Give every new or updated page a non-empty, single-line summary of at most 160 characters. Never edit or propose exact mutations for index.md; the CLI generates it from page metadata.

Commit

Submit a payload through stdin to:

text
python3 <launcher> --workspace <workspace> \
  --agent codex --adapter-version 1.1.1 end \
  --confirm-explicit-user-end --payload -

Payload:

json
{
  "dailySummary": "## Outcomes\n- ...\n\n## Next steps\n- ...",
  "agent": "codex",
  "pages": [
    {
      "filename": "decision-name.md",
      "content": "---\ntype: decision\nstack: [codex]\nstatus: active\nsummary: The decision and its consequences.\n---\n\n# Decision\n..."
    }
  ]
}

Use an empty pages array when no durable page needs changing. To deprecate a page, update its frontmatter status and summary plus its body rather than sending indexUpdates. The CLI validates the complete page set before writing, regenerates the index, creates a merge-safe unique Session log file, and marks memory saved only with the explicit confirmation flag.

Report the written session log, page count, and generated index result. If validation or a concurrency hash fails, do not claim success; reread, reconcile, and retry.

How do I install Echoes End in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add psinetron/echoes-vault-codex --skill echoes-end -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/echoes-end in psinetron/echoes-vault-codex) into .claude/skills/echoes-end in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Echoes End in Codex?

Run `npx skills add psinetron/echoes-vault-codex --skill echoes-end -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/echoes-end in psinetron/echoes-vault-codex) into .agents/skills/echoes-end in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Echoes End in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add psinetron/echoes-vault-codex --skill echoes-end -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/echoes-end, .gemini/skills/echoes-end, .github/skills/echoes-end and .opencode/skills/echoes-end in your project.

What does Echoes End need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Echoes End is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Python 3.

Does Echoes End access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Echoes End safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Echoes End use?

Echoes End is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Echoes End use?

About 665 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Echoes End?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Echoes End: MCP Server Builder (anthropics/skills, 180k stars), Hook Development for Claude Code Plugins (anthropics/claude-plugins-official, 38k stars), Using Superpowers (farm-fe/farm, 5.6k stars) and Executing Plans Inline (obra/superpowers, 296k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Echoes End?
