What it does

Apollo Outreach is an agent skill from OpenClaudia/openclaudia-skills. Research and enrich B2B leads using the Apollo.io API. Use when the user says "find leads", "prospect research", "company enrichment", "find decision makers", "B2B leads", "lead research", "enrich contacts", "find VP of marketing at", or asks about finding people at specific companies or in specific roles.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.4k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Backend & APIs, covering GraphQL and Lead generation. The repository describes itself as: 77 open-source marketing skills for Claude Code, Codex, and other AI coding agents. SEO, content, email, ads, analytics, and growth. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • The user says find leads
  • Prospect research
  • Company enrichment
  • Find decision makers

Example prompts

  • “find leads”
  • “prospect research”
  • “company enrichment”
  • “/apollo-outreach”

Requirements

  • A credential in APOLLO_API_KEY

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Define ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)
  2. Build Search Query
  3. Enrich Results
  4. Qualify & Prioritize
  5. Output Lead List

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 28bf209. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • curl

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • api.apollo.io

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • APOLLO_API_KEY

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Apollo Outreach loads about 1.4k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 373 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~81
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:12
t in environment variables or `~/.claude/.env.global`. If not found, inform the user:
  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:17
    Or add it to ~/.claude/.env.global

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Lead Research Process

Step 1: Define ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)

Ask or infer:

  • Target titles: What roles are you selling to?
  • Company size: Employee count range
  • Industry: Specific verticals
  • Geography: Target regions/countries
  • Tech stack: Specific technologies they use
  • Revenue range: Company revenue target
Step 2: Build Search Query

Translate ICP into Apollo search filters. Run multiple searches with variations:

  • Different title variations (VP Marketing = VP of Marketing = Vice President, Marketing)
  • Adjacent roles (CMO, Director of Marketing, Head of Growth)
  • Company size tiers separately

Step 3: Enrich Results

For each prospect found:

  1. Note their current title, company, and location
  2. Enrich their company domain for additional context
  3. Look for mutual connections or shared background
Step 4: Qualify & Prioritize

Company size25%Sweet spot for your product
Industry fit20%Core vs. adjacent industry
Recency15%How recently they started the role

2. {Specific angle based on role/industry}

Important Notes

  • Apollo rate limits are strict (~600/hour). Batch requests and cache results.
  • Some endpoints require a paid plan. Handle 403 responses gracefully.
  • Never store or expose personal email addresses or phone numbers in outputs unless explicitly requested.
  • Respect opt-out lists and GDPR/CAN-SPAM compliance.
  • Use enrichment data for personalization, not for unsolicited spam.
