What it does

Compute Methods is an agent skill from Muuuun/luxas. Environment-verified friction sheets for field-standard computational tools (Rydberg pair interactions, QEC circuits, qLDPC decoding, code distance, atom dynamics, optics, quantum chemistry). Each sheet lists the tools the field actually uses, the first-use frictions that make agents wrongly abandon them, and one-line smoke tests. Injected at spawn time into experiment and toolimpl contexts by buildMethodsRegistry (src/agents/context-builders.ts) — the named reader; do not add sheets without match: keywords or…

Its SKILL.md is about 480 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 7 other files (for example `atom-dynamics.md`, `code-distance.md` and `optics.md`). Compatibility notes: Pure prompt skill. Sheets are data; the injection lives in the harness.

It sits in Testing & QA, covering QA and bug reports. The repository describes itself as: An autonomous research colleague — from a question to a compiled manuscript, while you sleep. The licence is MIT.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9f77cef. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Pure prompt skill. Sheets are data; the injection lives in the harness.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Compute Methods loads about 475 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 140 tokens; SKILL.md has 165 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~140
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~475

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Compute-methods registry

Why this exists (2026-07-13, debate-adjudicated): experiment agents abandon the field-standard tool over first-use friction and fall back to approximations that change the science. Canonical: pairinteraction rejected as "requires manual database download" when the real fix was the species string 'Yb174_mqdt' — the ν¹¹-scaling fallback missed series splitting and a pair resonance that refuted a headline claim. A sheet row is cheaper than a debugging spiral: a friction listed here is a usage bug, not a tool failure.

Sheet contract:

  • frontmatter match: comma-separated keywords (substring, case-insensitive) — ranked by hit count against RESEARCH.md + literature head + task text.
  • frontmatter verified: YYYY-MM-DD + verified-on: vm|mac. Sheets without verified: are injected with an UNVERIFIED banner; older than 90 days get a STALE banner (frictions demote to hints).
  • Body: per-tool table (frictions, smoke test), then ## Known false rejections — verbatim wrong claims from past ledgers, so a reviewer can recognize a recurrence.
  • After you fix a new friction in anger, add the row in the same session — the next agent inherits it.

How do I install Compute Methods in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill compute-methods -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/compute-methods in Muuuun/luxas) into .claude/skills/compute-methods in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Compute Methods in Codex?

Run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill compute-methods -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/compute-methods in Muuuun/luxas) into .agents/skills/compute-methods in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Compute Methods in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill compute-methods -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/compute-methods, .gemini/skills/compute-methods, .github/skills/compute-methods and .opencode/skills/compute-methods in your project.

What does Compute Methods need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Compute Methods is instructions for the agent only. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Pure prompt skill. Sheets are data; the injection lives in the harness..

Does Compute Methods access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Compute Methods safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Compute Methods use?

Compute Methods is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Compute Methods use?

About 475 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Compute Methods?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Compute Methods: Reproduce Chat States (different-ai/openwork, 24k stars), Dynamo Jira Ticket (DynamoDS/Dynamo, 2k stars), Minimal Run And Audit (lllllllama/RigorPilot-Skills, 497 stars) and Moav E2E (MotherofallVPNs/MoaV, 448 stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Compute Methods?

Muuuun (a GitHub user) maintains it in Muuuun/luxas, which has 1,169 GitHub stars. The repository holds 9 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on September 6, 2026.
