What it does
Review is an agent skill from Muuuun/luxas. Write domain-authentic review articles that synthesize rather than stack. Covers 10 scientific domains (physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, mathematics, computerscience, earthenvironment, astronomy, economics, materials) with per-domain style guides mined from landmark reviews in RMP / Nat. Rev. X / Annu. Rev. / Chem. Rev. / Bull. AMS / etc. Use this skill when writing a survey / review / report that spans multiple primary papers.
Its SKILL.md is about 2.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 19 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `references/anti_patterns.md`, `references/decision_tree.md` and `references/exemplar_survey_outline.md`). Compatibility notes: Pure prompt skill. No binaries, no scripts required at review-writing time.
It sits in Research & Science, covering Physical and earth sciences. The repository describes itself as: An autonomous research colleague — from a question to a compiled manuscript, while you sleep. The licence is MIT.

Requirements
A Bash shell
Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Pure prompt skill. No binaries, no scripts required at review-writing time.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9f77cef. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Tool permissions
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
Read
Edit
Write
Glob
Grep
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Runs code
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Shell), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
bash

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Context cost
Review loads about 2.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~7.8k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 112 tokens; SKILL.md has 788 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Always· name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~112
When it runs· the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.1k
With references· SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~7.8k
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
Safety
Auto-check passed
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Download SKILL.mdSave it as .claude/skills/review/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 16 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.

Review Skill
Stacking is the default failure mode of autonomous review projects: "Smith et al.
did X, found Y. Jones et al. extended to Z..." paragraph after paragraph, with
no unifying thesis and no synthesis of tensions. Top-tier reviews do the
opposite — they lead with a claim, pull disparate work into one frame, and
leave the reader smarter than when they started.
This skill encodes the rhetorical and structural conventions of landmark
reviews across 10 domains, mined from real corpus text (RMP, Chem. Rev.,
Nat. Rev. X, Annu. Rev., Bull. AMS, Science / Nature Reviews, and the
domain-specific tier-1 venues). Inject a domain's style guide, follow the
3-step pipeline, obey the hard rules — and the output should pass the
Turing test for an editor at its target venue.
See references/decision_tree.md for full venue taxonomy.
The 3-step pipeline (mandatory)
Skip no step. Each exists because stacker projects skip exactly this step.
Step 1 — Outline with thesis per section (BEFORE any prose)
Produce notes/report_outline.md first (canonical path — the finish-gate's
outline check reads exactly this file; first line MUST be type: survey).
For the annotated gold-standard skeleton, see
skills/review/references/exemplar_survey_outline.md:
markdown
type: survey
# <title>
## §1 Introduction
**Thesis:** <one sentence. What is this review claiming about the field?>
**Unifying framework:** <concept / equation / taxonomy that ties everything>
**Fold in:** Paper A (framework), Paper B (canonical result), …
## §2 <topic>
**Thesis:** <claim this section argues, not a topic label>
**Fold in:** Paper C, D, E
**Synthesis move:** <comparative_table | contrast_pair | unifying_equation | …>
…
Gate: do not draft prose until a PI / reviewer / user has signed off on
this outline. This is the single most effective anti-stacking move — if you
cannot articulate a thesis per section in one sentence, the section will
stack.
Step 2 — Draft, reading domain style guide before each section
Before drafting §N:
Read style_guides/<domain>.md — the entire guide, every time, fresh.
Read §N's outline entry.
Write prose that obeys the guide's claim-leading, synthesis-move, and
transition conventions. Quote primary papers only where a claim needs
evidence, not to fill the paragraph.
Step 3 — Synthesis rewrite pass (POST-draft)
After the full draft:
For every paragraph, check its first sentence. If it starts with
"Smith et al." / "Jones and coworkers" / "In [42]" / any author name →
rewrite it to lead with a claim about the phenomenon, and push the
citation to mid-paragraph or parenthetical.
For every section, check its first paragraph. If it starts with
orientation ("This section discusses…") instead of thesis →
rewrite the first sentence to state the claim.
For every section-to-section boundary, add a transition sentence that
names the bridge (cause→effect / contrast / zoom-in / caveat /
historical pivot). See references/transition_moves.md.
Hard rules
These are non-negotiable. Violations should trigger rewrite before output.
No paragraph begins with an authorship phrase. "Smith et al." / "Jones
and coworkers" / "In [42]" as paragraph-openers are banned. Lead with a
claim about the phenomenon; attribute parenthetically or mid-paragraph.
No section begins with "This section…" / "We now discuss…" / "Here
we…" Lead with a thesis sentence about the field.
No uncited claim, no un-claiming citation. Every citation must support
a specific claim. Every claim beyond common knowledge gets a citation.
Drive-by citations ("for a review see [7, 8, 9]" without claim anchoring)
are a stacker tell — use them sparingly and only at section boundaries.
Fold, don't list. When multiple papers make compatible findings,
synthesize them into one claim with a shared citation cluster. When they
disagree, make the tension the subject of the paragraph.
Use domain voice. If writing physics, obey style_guides/physics.md
on citation style (narrative vs parenthetical), equation density, section
title voice. Do not import chemistry's taxonomy-monograph habits into a
physics RMP draft.

Style guides (one per domain)
Auto-loaded by the agent when <domain> is set. Each is ~1,000–2,000 words of
prose distilled from 8–12 landmark reviews in that domain.
references/anti_patterns.md — the stacking tells (paragraph openers, drive-by citations, "zoo of results" paragraphs, untriaged citation clusters). What to not write.
references/synthesis_rubric.md — the 7 canonical moves for unifying disparate work (unifying equation, comparative table, taxonomy tree, contrast pair, timeline, platform comparison, phase diagram).
references/transition_moves.md — grammar of section-to-section and paragraph-to-paragraph movement.
references/decision_tree.md — venue selection by length + audience + voice.
First-time usage
In a review project:
bash
# 1. Copy the relevant style guide into your project (optional; skill reads
# from here by default)
cp skills/review/style_guides/physics.md report/style_guide.md
# 2. Draft outline.md FIRST per Step 1 above
# 3. Have PI review the outline — this is the gate
# 4. Draft prose per section, reading the style guide before each section
# 5. Synthesis rewrite pass per Step 3
# 6. Compile
Syncing style guides from source
Style guides are mined from real corpus text in the sister repo
review_style_skills. To refresh:
bash
bash skills/review/scripts/sync_style_guides.sh
This re-copies data/style_guides/*.md from ~/Documents/review_style_skills
into skills/review/style_guides/.

When should I use Review?
Review fits situations like: writing a survey / review / report that spans multiple primary papers; tasks that involve Physical and earth sciences.
How do I install Review in Claude Code?
Run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill review -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/review in Muuuun/luxas) into .claude/skills/review in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
How do I install Review in Codex?
Run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill review -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/review in Muuuun/luxas) into .agents/skills/review in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Can I use Review in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Muuuun/luxas --skill review -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/review, .gemini/skills/review, .github/skills/review and .opencode/skills/review in your project.
What does Review need to run?
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Review needs a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (bash). Our summary lists: A Bash shell. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Edit, Write, Glob, Grep. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Pure prompt skill. No binaries, no scripts required at review-writing time..
Does Review access the network?
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Is Review safe to install?
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
What licence does Review use?
Review is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
How many tokens does Review use?
About 2.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 8.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 5.7k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
What are the alternatives to Review?
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Review: Ngeo Writing Style (brycewang-stanford/Awesome-Journal-Skills, 1.2k stars), Astropy (zLanqing/codex-claude-academic-skills, 4.7k stars), Pymatgen (zLanqing/codex-claude-academic-skills, 4.7k stars) and Cantera Ignition Delay (K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills, 48k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
Who maintains Review?
Muuuun (a GitHub user) maintains it in Muuuun/luxas, which has 1,170 GitHub stars. The repository holds 9 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on September 6, 2026.
