What it does

Venue Specific is an agent skill from Muuuun/luxas. Venue-specific formatting requirements for academic journals and conferences across all disciplines. Covers Nature, Science, Cell, PRL, NEJM, Lancet, JACS, NeurIPS, ICML, and 30+ top venues. Use when writing, formatting, or checking a paper for a specific target venue.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.9k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 117 other files, including reference files (for example `figstyles/README.md`, `references/CHECKLIST.md` and `references/CONVERSION.md`). Compatibility notes: Always available. No external dependencies.

It sits in Writing & Content, covering Brand voice and tone. The repository describes itself as: An autonomous research colleague — from a question to a compiled manuscript, while you sleep. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Checking a paper for a specific target venue
  • Tasks that involve Brand voice and tone

Example prompts

  • “/venue-specific”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Always available. No external dependencies.
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Write, Edit, Bash

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Identify the target venue from the user's request
  2. Load the venue file from references/ — read ONLY the relevant file, not all of them
  3. Load the matching writing-style file — see Writing Style Map below
  4. Apply rules to the current manuscript
  5. If venue is not covered, use references/INDEX.md to find the closest match + tell user to check the official author guidelines

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9f77cef. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Write
    • Edit
    • Bash

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash and markdown).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

    Always available. No external dependencies.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Venue Specific loads about 1.9k tokens when it runs, and up to ~31k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 71 tokens; SKILL.md has 716 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~71
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.9k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~31k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NotePre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: Bash)SKILL.md
    allowed-tools: Read, Write, Edit, Bash

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Venue-Specific Formatting Skill

Know the exact rules before you write. This skill provides concrete, actionable formatting specifications for 30+ top journals and conferences across all disciplines.

When to Use

  • User specifies a target journal or conference for their paper
  • Formatting or checking a manuscript before submission
  • Converting a paper from one venue's format to another
  • Answering questions about a specific venue's requirements (page limits, figure specs, etc.)

How to Use

Writing Style Map

Always load writing-style/universal.md (Gopen-Swan principles, precision, flow).

Then load the discipline-specific style guide:

Target VenueAlso Load
NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, COLM, ACLwriting-style/ml-ai-conferences.md

## Common Pitfalls

Templates

Bundled LaTeX templates for CS conferences are in templates/. See templates/README.md for:

  • Bundled: NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, AAAI, COLM, OSDI, NSDI, ASPLOS, SOSP
  • Download instructions: REVTeX (APS), Nature, ACS, Elsevier, Springer/LNCS, IEEE, ACM
Using a Template
bash
# Copy template to paper project
cp -r skills/venue-specific/templates/neurips2025/ project/report/

# Verify compilation before editing
cd project/report/ && latexmk -pdf main.tex

Never modify .sty/.cls files — only edit .tex content files.

Figure Styles

Bundled matplotlib .mplstyle files for publication-quality figures are in figstyles/. See figstyles/README.md for the full style map.

Setting Up Figure Style

When you determine the target venue, copy the matching style to the project:

bash
cp skills/venue-specific/figstyles/physics-aps.mplstyle project/report/figstyle.mplstyle
Style FileTarget Venues
physics-aps.mplstylePRL, PRX, PRA-PRE, Nature Physics
cs-conferences.mplstyleNeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, AAAI
nature-science.mplstyleNature, Science, Cell, PNAS, eLife
chemistry-acs.mplstyleJACS, Nano Lett, ACS Nano, Chem Rev

All plotting code must start with plt.style.use('report/figstyle.mplstyle'). Save as PDF (vector).

Rules for the Agent

  1. Read the venue file before giving any formatting advice — do not rely on memory
  2. Quote specific numbers (word limits, DPI, dimensions) — never approximate
  3. Flag uncertainty: if a requirement may have changed, say "verify at [official URL]"
  4. One venue at a time: if user hasn't specified, ask which venue they're targeting
  5. Never modify venue files based on guesses — only update with verified information from official author guidelines
  6. Use bundled templates when starting a new paper — copy from templates/, never edit in place
