self-reviewReviews an academic paper in the NeurIPS review format with three reviewer personas, reflection rounds and averaged scores, and outputs an actionable report.
The agent loads a paper from a PDF or a .tex file. PDF text comes from a script that tries pymupdf4llm, then pymupdf, then pypdf, and an optional parser recovers the title, section headings and section text. It then runs three independent reviews, from a harsh but fair reviewer, a harsh and critical reviewer and an open-minded one, each following the NeurIPS review JSON format in references/review-form.md.
Each review gets up to three reflection rounds that re-check accuracy and soundness. The results are combined by averaging scores with weights such as Overall 1.0, Contribution 0.4 and Presentation 0.2, plus a meta-review of the consensus, and the report gives an overall score out of 10 and an accept or reject decision. The agent must also verify that the abstract, introduction, methods, experiments and discussion are present, and lower the scores for any that are missing.

Academic Paper Self-Review loads about 877 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.8k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 258 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 258 words (~877 tokens).

Academic Paper Self-Review fits situations like: getting a mock peer review of a paper before submission; stress-testing a draft with critical and open-minded reviewer views; checking that a manuscript has all required sections; turning review feedback into a prioritized to-do list.
Run `npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill self-review -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/self-review in lingzhi227/agent-research-skills) into .claude/skills/self-review in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill self-review -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/self-review in lingzhi227/agent-research-skills) into .agents/skills/self-review in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add lingzhi227/agent-research-skills --skill self-review -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/self-review, .gemini/skills/self-review, .github/skills/self-review and .opencode/skills/self-review in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Academic Paper Self-Review needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python and pip). Our summary lists: Python with `pymupdf4llm`, `pymupdf` and `pypdf` for PDF extraction.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use pip, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
No licence was found for Academic Paper Self-Review or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.
About 877 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 969 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
