At a glance

Generates subtitles with the KrillinAI CLI from a YouTube link, Bilibili link or local video, with platform captions, Whisper fallback, translation and bilingual SRT output.

  • Generating translated or bilingual subtitles for a YouTube video
  • SKILL.md covers Command, Inputs, Important Flags and Outputs, plus 1 more section
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Subtitling a local video file in another language

What it does

The skill runs the KrillinAI CLI's subtitle command on a YouTube URL, a local file given as local: plus an absolute path, or other links that yt-dlp supports, such as Bilibili. For YouTube it prefers platform captions and falls back to Whisper transcription, while other platforms may behave differently, so a transcription fallback is expected there. Flags set the source and target language, a working directory, the caption source, whether to prepare the original video, the bilingual layout and a subtitle-style override. A dry-run option validates the command without downloads or AI calls.

A real run writes krillinai_manifest.json and subtitle files: original-language, target-language and bilingual SRT, plus a short mixed-language SRT, with the original video and audio when preparation produced them. Verification means terminal JSON with ok set to true, a manifest under the working directory, a spot check of the bilingual ordering and the short subtitle readability, and a non-empty video when one was requested. The CLI contract lives in a separate reference file of the krillinai-cli skill.

When your agent uses it

  • Generating translated or bilingual subtitles for a YouTube video
  • Subtitling a local video file in another language
  • Producing short vertical-format subtitles from existing media

Example prompts

  • “Make Chinese subtitles for this English YouTube video with KrillinAI and give me the bilingual SRT.”
  • “Transcribe local:/home/me/clips/demo.mp4 and translate the subtitles into Japanese.”
  • “Dry-run the KrillinAI subtitle command for this Bilibili link before downloading anything.”

Requirements

  • The KrillinAI CLI
  • Network access for downloads and AI calls
  • yt-dlp for Bilibili and other supported links

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 837dbb4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

KrillinAI Subtitle Generator loads about 613 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 62 tokens; SKILL.md has 209 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~62
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~613

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Use when generating subtitles with KrillinAI CLI from a YouTube link, Bilibili/local video, or existing media, including platform caption download, Whisper fallback, translation, bilingual SRT, and short vertical subtitle output.

KrillinAI Subtitle

Use this skill for the subtitle stage. Read skills/krillinai-cli/references/cli-contract.md first for binary location, execution working directory, configuration, and JSON behavior.

Command

bash
(cd "$KRILLINAI_CWD" && "$KRILLINAI_CLI" subtitle "<input>" \
  --origin-lang en \
  --target-lang zh_cn \
  --workdir "$WORKDIR" \
  --caption-source any \
  --prepare-video)

Inputs

  • YouTube URL: prefer --caption-source any; platform captions are used first, then Whisper fallback.
  • Local file: use local:/abs/path/video.mp4 or a path accepted by the CLI.
  • Bilibili or other yt-dlp supported links: use when media download works; platform caption behavior may differ, so expect transcription fallback.

Important Flags

FlagUse
--origin-langSource language, such as en, zh, ja
--target-langTarget language, such as zh_cn
--workdirDedicated task directory
--caption-source anyPrefer platform captions, fallback to transcription
--caption-source whisperForce transcription
--prepare-videoRequire the original video for later render stages
--bilingual-top=truePut target language on top in bilingual SRT
--subtitle-style-fileMerge a JSON subtitle-style override
--dry-runValidate without downloads or AI calls

Outputs

After a real run, read paths from krillinai_manifest.json. Main files:

  • origin_language_srt.srt
  • target_language_srt.srt
  • bilingual_srt.srt
  • short_origin_mixed_srt.srt
  • origin_video.mp4 when media preparation produced or required video
  • origin_audio.mp3 when transcription preparation produced audio

subtitle --dry-run validates command shape but does not write a manifest or output files.

Verification

  • Require terminal JSON with "ok": true.
  • Confirm krillinai_manifest.json exists under --workdir.
  • Spot-check bilingual_srt.srt ordering and short_origin_mixed_srt.srt readability.
  • When --prepare-video was requested, require a non-empty origin_video output.
  • For Agent integration details, read skills/krillinai-cli/references/cli-contract.md.
