At a glance

Renders a source video as a portrait video with the KrillinAI CLI, with short bilingual subtitles or a dubbed audio track, then checks the result.

  • Converting a landscape video to portrait with short bilingual subtitles
  • SKILL.md covers Bilingual Short-Subtitle Video, Dubbed Vertical Video, Subtitle Behavior and Outputs, plus 1 more section
  • Calls rg and ffmpeg
  • Rendering a dubbed vertical video from a clip that already has a synthesized voice track

What it does

This skill drives the render-vertical command of the KrillinAI command-line tool. It covers two flows: converting a source video to portrait format with short English and Chinese subtitles, and rendering a vertical video that uses a dubbed track by passing the dubbed option. Both run from the KrillinAI working directory against files in a work folder, and the skill sends you to the krillinai-cli skill's contract file for the binary location, configuration and JSON behavior.

Subtitle handling is spelled out. Chinese text is word-segmented before lines are decided, Chinese characters count as double width when lines are split, and long Chinese subtitles are spread over several timed Dialogue entries instead of being stacked with line-break codes. The aim is one English line plus one Chinese line on screen.

The outputs are transferred_vertical_video.mp4, vertical_bilingual.mp4 and vertical_dubbed.mp4. To verify, you search the formatted .ass file for stray line breaks, pull preview frames with ffmpeg, and require terminal JSON reporting ok, valid video and audio streams, readable subtitles and no garbled titles.

When your agent uses it

  • Converting a landscape video to portrait with short bilingual subtitles
  • Rendering a dubbed vertical video from a clip that already has a synthesized voice track
  • Checking that vertical subtitles stay readable and do not wrap badly
  • Reviewing preview frames of a rendered portrait video for garbled titles

Example prompts

  • “Render ./work/origin_video.mp4 as a vertical video with short English and Chinese subtitles.”
  • “Make the dubbed vertical version from video_with_tts.mp4 and tell me where the final file landed.”
  • “Check the vertical bilingual video for subtitles that wrap badly or show garbled titles.”

Requirements

  • The KrillinAI CLI binary and its working directory
  • A source video in the work folder, such as origin_video.mp4
  • ffmpeg for the preview-frame check

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 837dbb4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • rg
    • ffmpeg

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

KrillinAI Render Vertical loads about 527 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 62 tokens; SKILL.md has 142 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~62
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~527

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Use when rendering portrait videos with KrillinAI CLI, including converting source video to vertical format, adding short bilingual subtitles, rendering dubbed vertical videos, and checking vertical subtitle readability.

KrillinAI Render Vertical

Use this skill for render-vertical. Read skills/krillinai-cli/references/cli-contract.md first for binary location, execution working directory, configuration, and JSON behavior.

Bilingual Short-Subtitle Video

bash
(cd "$KRILLINAI_CWD" && "$KRILLINAI_CLI" render-vertical \
  --workdir "$WORKDIR" \
  --video "$WORKDIR/origin_video.mp4" \
  --subtitle "$WORKDIR/short_origin_mixed_srt.srt" \
  --major-title "今日话题" \
  --minor-title "AI Video")

Dubbed Vertical Video

bash
(cd "$KRILLINAI_CWD" && "$KRILLINAI_CLI" render-vertical \
  --workdir "$WORKDIR" \
  --video "$WORKDIR/video_with_tts.mp4" \
  --subtitle "$WORKDIR/target_language_srt.srt" \
  --dubbed \
  --major-title "今日话题" \
  --minor-title "AI Video")

Subtitle Behavior

The Go renderer follows the good behavior from vertical_srt.py:

  • Chinese uses word segmentation before line decisions.
  • Display width is used for line splitting: Chinese counts as width 2, other text as width 1.
  • Long Chinese subtitles are split across time into multiple Dialogue entries instead of stacked with \N.
  • The goal is to keep the screen to one English line plus one Chinese line when possible.

Outputs

  • transferred_vertical_video.mp4: source converted to portrait format.
  • vertical_bilingual.mp4: default final vertical video.
  • vertical_dubbed.mp4: final video with --dubbed.
  • Final variants are reported through the manifest key vertical_video.

Verification

Use text and visual checks:

bash
rg -n -F '\\N' "$WORKDIR/formatted_vertical_bilingual.ass"
ffmpeg -y -ss 00:00:01 -i "$WORKDIR/vertical_bilingual.mp4" \
  -frames:v 1 "$WORKDIR/vertical_preview_%03d.jpg"

Also require terminal JSON with "ok": true, valid video/audio streams, readable subtitles, and non-garbled titles.
