decision-heuristicsHelps with big life and career choices you cannot settle, such as a new job, a move or a partnership, using three rules drawn from the Naval Almanack.
Written in Chinese, the skill is a distilled decision aid for choices that lock you in for years, where a pros-and-cons list has not produced an answer. It rests on three rules: if you cannot decide, the answer is no, and building a pros-and-cons spreadsheet is itself a sign you are not sure enough; the decisions that shape a life, where to live, who with and what to do, deserve a year or two; and when two options are truly equal, pick the one that hurts more in the short term.
The steps are to judge whether the decision is major, meaning a lock-in of roughly five years or more, run the decision gate, apply the short-term pain rule to equal options, and set aside a research window for big choices. Boundaries are stated: skip daily choices such as dinner or outfits and plain information lookups, drop the rule when one option is clearly worse, and remember that saying no suits people with plenty of opportunities and that some pain is simply bad. Test prompts and results files ship with it.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Major Decision Heuristics loads about 669 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 51 tokens; SKILL.md has 158 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Major Decision Heuristics fits situations like: stuck between taking a new job and staying; weighing a big move or a partnership with no clear answer; A long pros and cons list has not settled the choice; too many opportunities and no way to choose.
Run `npx skills add kangarooking/cangjie-skill --skill decision-heuristics -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (books/naval-almanack-skill/decision-heuristics in kangarooking/cangjie-skill) into .claude/skills/decision-heuristics in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add kangarooking/cangjie-skill --skill decision-heuristics -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (books/naval-almanack-skill/decision-heuristics in kangarooking/cangjie-skill) into .agents/skills/decision-heuristics in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add kangarooking/cangjie-skill --skill decision-heuristics -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/decision-heuristics, .gemini/skills/decision-heuristics, .github/skills/decision-heuristics and .opencode/skills/decision-heuristics in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Major Decision Heuristics is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Major Decision Heuristics is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 669 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
