ray-trend-searchResearches what people are saying about a topic over a recent window across X, Reddit, YouTube and the public web, reporting each source's status with links.
The skill builds a trend map even when a platform connector fails, treating every source as its own channel and never reading an empty or failed query as proof that nobody is discussing the topic. It orchestrates a local Grok route for X and Reddit, the last30days collector for supported indexes and public-web checks, with a stated time window that defaults to the last 30 days.
A run must state the window and platforms, label each source as ok, degraded, unavailable or not requested, keep only in-window items in the recent results, give direct links for material claims, and separate visible facts, third-party observations, inference and unknowns. The strongest claim is cross-checked against a primary or independent source. Quick mode, the default, runs one X search, one short YouTube or index search and web verification; deep mode searches X and Reddit separately and compares sources. `source_probe.py` checks which local routes exist, and credentials are never shown.

Ray Trend Search loads about 2.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.7k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 132 tokens; SKILL.md has 998 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 998 words (~2,088 tokens).
“Build a defensible recent-trend map even when individual platform connectors fail. Treat every source as a separately observable channel. Never turn a failed connector or an empty query into a claim that nobody is discussing the topic.”

Ray Trend Search fits situations like: checking what people are saying about a topic over the last few weeks; finding hot videos or community sentiment around a product or news item; backing a content idea with dated, linked evidence from several platforms.
Run `npx skills add imraywang/rayskills --skill ray-trend-search -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/ray-trend-search in imraywang/rayskills) into .claude/skills/ray-trend-search in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add imraywang/rayskills --skill ray-trend-search -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/ray-trend-search in imraywang/rayskills) into .agents/skills/ray-trend-search in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add imraywang/rayskills --skill ray-trend-search -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/ray-trend-search, .gemini/skills/ray-trend-search, .github/skills/ray-trend-search and .opencode/skills/ray-trend-search in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Ray Trend Search needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python3). Our summary lists: Python 3 for the probe and collector scripts; A local Grok setup for X and Reddit searches; The last30days collector for supported indexes.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Ray Trend Search has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 2.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 8.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 563 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
