What it does

Javascript Tooling is an agent skill from HoangNguyen0403/agent-skills-standard. Configure development tools, linting, formatting, and test runners for existing JavaScript projects. Use for ESLint, Prettier, Jest, or equivalent tool setup; defer application implementation and generic project scaffolding.

Its SKILL.md is about 450 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files, including reference files (for example `evals/evals.json` and `references/REFERENCE.md`).

It sits in Development, covering Linting and formatting and Unit testing. It works with JavaScript, Prettier, ESLint and Jest. The repository describes itself as: A collection of Agent Skills Standard and Best Practice for Programming Languages, Frameworks that help our AI Agent follow best practies on frameworks and programming laguages. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/javascript-tooling”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 266fd75. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are javascript and json).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Javascript Tooling loads about 446 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 107 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~61
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~446
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.1k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

JavaScript Tooling

Priority: P1 (HIGH)

Implementation Guidelines

Start tooling recommendations with the applicable Priority and then state the formatting tool and enforcement point.

  • Linting: ESLint (Rec + Prettier). Fix on save.
  • Formatting: Prettier. Run on save/commit.
  • Testing: Jest/Vitest. Co-locate tests. >80% cov.
  • Build: Vite (Apps), Rollup (Libs).
  • Pkg Manager: Sync versions (npm/yarn/pnpm).

Anti-Patterns

  • No Formatting Wars: Prettier rules.
  • No Untested Code: TDD/Post-code tests.
  • No Dirty Commits: Lint before push.

Configuration

javascript
// .eslintrc.js
module.exports = {
  extends: ['eslint:recommended', 'prettier'],
  rules: { 'no-console': 'warn', 'prefer-const': 'error' },
};
json
// .prettierrc
{ "semi": true, "singleQuote": true, "printWidth": 80 }
javascript
// jest.config.js
export default {
  coverageThreshold: { global: { lines: 80 } },
};
