At a glance

Sets rules for Angular HTTP code: functional interceptors, typed requests, services that own every call, and httpResource for reactive data loading in Angular 17+.

  • Writing a functional interceptor for auth headers or error handling
  • SKILL.md covers Priority: P1 (HIGH), Principles, Signal-Based HTTP (Angular 17+) and Guidelines, plus 3 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Setting up provideHttpClient in app.config.ts

What it does

The skill is a short rule set for HttpClient. Interceptors should be functional HttpInterceptorFn functions registered through provideHttpClient with withInterceptors, because class-based interceptors are deprecated. Requests are typed, such as http.get and http.post with a type parameter, HttpClient comes from inject in services, and app.config.ts gets provideHttpClient with interceptors and withFetch. Components never call http, since services own every call.

For Angular 17 and later it prefers httpResource, which refetches when its signal inputs change and exposes loading, value and error state, over a manual subscribe, with toSignal as an alternative and resource for non-HTTP async work. Guidelines cover caching in interceptors or with shareReplay, error handling in services or global interceptors with a notification service for display, and HttpContext for passing flags such as skipping error handling. A reference file on interceptors and an evals file come with it.

When your agent uses it

  • Writing a functional interceptor for auth headers or error handling
  • Setting up provideHttpClient in app.config.ts
  • Moving HTTP calls out of components into services
  • Loading reactive data with httpResource instead of a manual subscribe
  • Adding caching to API calls

Example prompts

  • “Write a functional interceptor that adds the bearer token and register it with provideHttpClient.”
  • “Move the HTTP calls out of the ProductListComponent into a typed service.”
  • “Replace this manual subscribe with httpResource so the user data refetches when the id signal changes.”
  • “Add an HttpContext flag that lets one request skip the global error interceptor.”

Requirements

  • An Angular project, version 17 or later for httpResource

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 266fd75. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are typescript).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Angular HttpClient Standards loads about 652 tokens when it runs, and up to ~778 if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 205 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~44
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~652
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~778

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Integrate HttpClient, Interceptors, and API interactions in Angular. Use when integrating HttpClient, writing interceptors, or handling API calls in Angular.

HTTP Client

Priority: P1 (HIGH)

Principles

  • Functional Interceptors: Use HttpInterceptorFn (e.g., (req, next) => next(req.clone({ setHeaders: { Authorization: token } }))). Clone requests with req.clone( — class-based interceptors deprecated. Register via withInterceptors([...]) in provideHttpClient.
  • Typed Responses: Always type http.post<T>(), http.get<T>(). Use inject(HttpClient) in services (not constructor injection). Add provideHttpClient(withInterceptors([...]), withFetch()) to app.config.ts.
  • Services: Encapsulate all HTTP calls in Services. Never call http in Components.

Signal-Based HTTP (Angular 17+)

Prefer httpResource<T>() over manual subscribe for reactive data loading — it auto-refetches when its signal inputs change:

typescript
// Reactive: refetches automatically when userId() changes
userResource = httpResource<User>(() => `/api/users/${this.userId()}`);
// States: .isLoading() | .hasValue() | .error() | .value() | .reload()

Use resource<T, P>({ request: () => params(), loader: ... }) for non-HTTP async operations with full .isLoading() lifecycle control.

Guidelines

  • Caching: Implement caching in interceptors or using shareReplay(1) in services.
  • Error Handling: Handle errors in service using catchError or global interceptors, not components. Use notification service for display.
  • Context: Use HttpContext to pass metadata to interceptors (e.g., skip error handling or specific caching rules).

Anti-Patterns

  • No HTTP in Components: Encapsulate all HTTP calls in Services.
  • No class-based interceptors: Use HttpInterceptorFn functional interceptors.
  • No manual subscribe for GET: Use httpResource() or toSignal(http.get(...)) instead.

Canonical response anchors

When this skill applies, preserve the following domain terminology or equivalent concrete examples in the answer when relevant:

  • Encapsulate all HTTP calls

  • auto-refetches

  • http.post<T>

  • skip error handling

  • Additional task-grounded exact anchors: notification service

What does Angular HttpClient Standards need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Angular HttpClient Standards is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: An Angular project, version 17 or later for httpResource.

Does Angular HttpClient Standards access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Angular HttpClient Standards safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Angular HttpClient Standards use?

Angular HttpClient Standards is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Angular HttpClient Standards use?

About 652 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 126 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
