deep-researchRuns multi-source web research with a search plan, targeted extraction and cross-checking, rating confidence by how many sources agree and organizing results by subtopic.
The skill lays out a research routine. The topic is broken into three to five distinct angles, each searched with a few queries in different terminology, including site-specific searches and official, comparison and review-oriented queries, aiming for roughly five to ten unique, high-quality sources.
Each source is scraped with a targeted query so full pages do not flood the context, and the agent extracts key claims, data points, dates and attributed quotes while recording the author, publication, date and URL. Claims are cross-referenced across at least two sources, single-source claims are flagged, and confidence is high when three or more sources agree, medium with two and low with one or conflicting reports. Contrarian viewpoints are included to avoid confirmation bias.
Output is organized by subtopic rather than by source, with an inline citation for every claim, and the structured data is passed to a formatOutput call. The description says to use it for any research task that needs three or more sources.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit f023adf. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

Deep Research loads about 278 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 32 tokens; SKILL.md has 118 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Deep Research fits situations like: researching a topic that needs three or more independent sources; fact-checking claims by cross-referencing several sources; producing a cited research summary organized by subtopic.
Run `npx skills add firecrawl/web-agent --skill deep-research -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (agent-core/src/skills/definitions/deep-research in firecrawl/web-agent) into .claude/skills/deep-research in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add firecrawl/web-agent --skill deep-research -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (agent-core/src/skills/definitions/deep-research in firecrawl/web-agent) into .agents/skills/deep-research in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add firecrawl/web-agent --skill deep-research -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/deep-research, .gemini/skills/deep-research, .github/skills/deep-research and .opencode/skills/deep-research in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Deep Research is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Web search and page scraping tools; A formatOutput tool for the final structured result.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Deep Research is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 278 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
