What it does

Ambient Context Standup is an agent skill from dragthelake/ambient-context. Use when the user asks for a standup, daily update, status for a channel, or what to say they did. Drafts it from yesterday's Ambient Context summary and today's record so far, in the user's voice.

Its SKILL.md is about 340 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Productivity & Automation, covering Meeting notes and agendas. The repository describes itself as: A menu bar app that keeps a written record of what you worked on. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • The user asks for a standup
  • Status for a channel
  • What to say they did

Example prompts

  • “s Ambient Context summary and today”
  • “/ambient-context-standup”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. list_days, then read_summary for the most recent working day before today. Skip weekend days unless the record shows work on them.
  2. read_summary for today if one exists; otherwise read_day with file set to apps for today and read the headings only.
  3. read_kb with file set to commitments.md for that day, for anything promised to someone.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 7e57155. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Ambient Context Standup loads about 343 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 163 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~55
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~343

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Standup

Follow the ambient-context skill's conventions.

Steps

  1. list_days, then read_summary for the most recent working day before today. Skip weekend days unless the record shows work on them.
  2. read_summary for today if one exists; otherwise read_day with file set to apps for today and read the headings only.
  3. read_kb with file set to commitments.md for that day, for anything promised to someone.

Reply

Three short sections, first person, plain sentences the user could paste into Slack or Linear without editing:

  • Yesterday. What moved, by project. Outcomes over activity: "shipped the update slot state machine", not "worked on update.rs for four hours".
  • Today. What the record shows them already on, plus any commitment due.
  • Blocked. Only if the record shows a wait on someone or something. Leave the section out when there is nothing.

Name only work the record shows. If the day is thin, say so rather than pad it. No emoji, no nested bullets, no times unless they matter.
