user-story-mapping-workshopFacilitates a live story-mapping session with adaptive questions, turning a flat backlog into a map and a release slice.
The backbone of essential activities runs left to right in narrative order, user tasks descend vertically by priority under each one, and the highest-priority row across every activity forms what the method calls a walking skeleton, the smallest end-to-end functionality worth building first. Questions about the system and its users open the session and adapt from there, building incrementally left-to-right and top-to-bottom rather than finishing one feature before starting the next, aiming to avoid what it calls context-free mulch: stories that lost their connection to the overall system narrative.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1b5a524. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

User Story Mapping Workshop loads about 4.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 49 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,495 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 1,495 words (~4,206 tokens).
“Guide product managers through creating a user story map by asking adaptive questions about the system, users, workflow, and priorities—then generating a two-dimensional map with backbone (activities), user tasks, and release slices. Use this to move from flat backlogs to…”

User Story Mapping Workshop fits situations like: running a live workshop to build a story map with a team; turning a flat backlog into a visual, workflow-ordered map; defining a first release slice from a mapped user workflow.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill user-story-mapping-workshop -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/user-story-mapping-workshop in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .claude/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill user-story-mapping-workshop -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/user-story-mapping-workshop in deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills) into .agents/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add deanpeters/Product-Manager-Skills --skill user-story-mapping-workshop -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop, .gemini/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop, .github/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop and .opencode/skills/user-story-mapping-workshop in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: User Story Mapping Workshop is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
User Story Mapping Workshop has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 4.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 17k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
