At a glance

Copies a career-ops application tracker into a Notion database and reads saved Notion records back into the pipeline as job leads.

  • Keeping a Notion board in step with your job application tracker
  • SKILL.md covers Commands, Setup and Data it produces
  • Runs JavaScript scripts from its folder; calls node; needs NOTION_ACCESS_TOKEN
  • Previewing what would be sent to Notion before anything is written

What it does

The export command pushes each tracker row, with company, role, status and score, into an Applications database under a Career Ops page in Notion, and a dry-run option previews the push without writing. The local data/applications.md file stays the source of truth, and Notion is only an extra copy. Export reports how many rows it pushed and never writes local files.

The search command takes a query and returns Notion records that carry a job URL, as title, URL, company and location entries, which the engine then appends to the pipeline. Setup needs a Career Ops parent page in Notion holding an Applications database with Company, Role, Status, Score and URL properties, shared with your internal integration, and NOTION_ACCESS_TOKEN and NOTION_PARENT_PAGE_ID set in .env.

When your agent uses it

  • Keeping a Notion board in step with your job application tracker
  • Previewing what would be sent to Notion before anything is written
  • Pulling job leads saved in Notion into the career-ops pipeline

Example prompts

  • “Export my application tracker to Notion, but run it as a dry run first.”
  • “Search my Notion records for backend engineer leads and add any with a job URL to the pipeline.”

Requirements

  • A Notion internal integration token (NOTION_ACCESS_TOKEN)
  • The ID of the Career Ops parent page (NOTION_PARENT_PAGE_ID)
  • A Notion Applications database with Company, Role, Status, Score and URL properties
  • Node.js to run the `node plugins.mjs` runner

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9570926. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (JavaScript), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • node

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • NOTION_ACCESS_TOKEN

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Career Ops Notion Plugin loads about 301 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 30 tokens; SKILL.md has 144 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~30
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~301

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:25
    ESS_TOKEN` + `NOTION_PARENT_PAGE_ID` in `.env`.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

How to mirror the career-ops tracker to a Notion database and read records back as job leads.
license

notion plugin

Mirrors your application tracker to a Notion database (export) and reads records back into the pipeline (search). data/applications.md stays the source of truth — Notion is an additive mirror.

Commands

  • node plugins.mjs run notion export — push each tracker row (company / role / status / score) to the "Applications" database under your Career Ops page. Add --dry-run to preview without writing.
  • node plugins.mjs run notion search "<query>" — return Notion records that carry a job URL, matching the query, and append them to the pipeline.

Setup

A "Career Ops" parent page in Notion containing an "Applications" database with Company / Role / Status / Score / URL properties, shared with your internal integration. Put NOTION_ACCESS_TOKEN + NOTION_PARENT_PAGE_ID in .env.

Data it produces

search returns Job[] ({ title, url, company, location }) for records that have a job URL; the engine writes them to the pipeline. export returns { pushed: N } — it never writes local files.
