At a glance

Builds a categorized HTML changelog for a WebRTC release from the git log between two branch heads, with a summary and commit and review links.

  • Works in 5 steps: Fetch Branch Information: Navigate to → Update Git Execute git fetch origin to… → Fetch Git Log: Execute → …
  • Preparing release notes for a new WebRTC milestone
  • SKILL.md covers Workflow and Features
  • Calls git and python3; reaches chromiumdash.appspot.com

What it does

A release report for WebRTC starts from the Chromium Dash branches page, where the agent reads the current and previous branch numbers for the milestone from the webrtc column. It then runs git fetch origin and pulls the commit history between the two branch-heads refs.

The agent writes a high-level summary of the most significant changes as an HTML bullet list, then calls tools_webrtc/generate_changelog.py with the two branches, an output file, the summary text and the milestone. The generated page groups commits into categories by keywords, adds commit and Gerrit review links to each entry, turns bug references such as webrtc, chromium or b/ numbers into hyperlinks, and includes commit and author statistics.

When your agent uses it

  • Preparing release notes for a new WebRTC milestone
  • Summarizing what changed between two WebRTC branch heads

Example prompts

  • “Generate the WebRTC changelog for the current milestone and save it as changelog.html.”
  • “Summarize the commits between the last two WebRTC branches in an HTML report with review links.”

Requirements

  • A WebRTC git checkout containing tools_webrtc/generate_changelog.py
  • Python 3
  • Network access to chromiumdash.appspot.com

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Fetch Branch Information: Navigate to
  2. Update Git Execute git fetch origin to retrieve the remote git
  3. Fetch Git Log: Execute
  4. Generate Summary: Analyze the retrieved git log and produce a high-level
  5. Generate HTML Report: Use the generate_changelog.py script to create

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 67c4578. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • python3

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • chromiumdash.appspot.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

WebRTC Changelog Generator loads about 485 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 48 tokens; SKILL.md has 192 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~48
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~485

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Generate a professional HTML changelog from WebRTC git logs. Automatically categorizes changes, includes a high-level summary, and provides detailed commit and review links.

WebRTC Changelog Generator

webrtc-changelog automates the generation of a professional, categorized HTML report for WebRTC changes.

Workflow

  1. Fetch Branch Information: Navigate to https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/branches and extract the current and previous branch numbers associated with the milestone from the webrtc column of the first two rows in the Branch details table. These will be used as <branch2> (current) and <branch1> (previous). Note the milestone number (e.g., 148).
  2. Update Git Execute git fetch origin to retrieve the remote git branches.
  3. Fetch Git Log: Execute git log branch-heads/<branch1>..branch-heads/<branch2> to retrieve the commit history.
  4. Generate Summary: Analyze the retrieved git log and produce a high-level summary of the most significant changes. The summary MUST be formatted as an HTML unordered list (<ul><li>...</li></ul>) for best presentation in the report.
  5. Generate HTML Report: Use the generate_changelog.py script to create the final report, injecting the generated HTML summary and the milestone:
    bash
    python3 tools_webrtc/generate_changelog.py <branch1> <branch2> <output_file> --summary_text "<summary_html>" --milestone M<milestone_number>
