azure-pricingLooks up live Azure retail prices by SKU, service or region through the Azure MCP pricing tool, estimates template costs and compares regions, price types and savings plans.
This skill fetches live Azure retail pricing through the pricing tool of the Azure MCP server, which the Azure VS Code extension registers automatically, so no mcp.json setup is needed. The agent first runs a tool search with the pattern pricing to find the exact tool name rather than guessing it, then queries by SKU, service, region, service family, price type or a raw OData filter; at least one filter is required per call.
It supports the Consumption, Reservation and DevTestConsumption price types, and savings plan rates come from a separate include-savings-plan option, since SavingsPlan is not a valid price type; that option uses a preview API and mainly applies to Linux VMs. Currency defaults to GBP in the skill and is always passed explicitly, because the underlying tool would otherwise return USD. A specific SKU gives more targeted results than a service name alone.
Typical uses are the price of a VM size in one region, a comparison between two regions, reservation versus consumption rates for a database, the cheapest storage SKUs, and estimating the cost of a Bicep, ARM or Terraform template. Reference files hold the cost formulas and notes on SKU naming quirks.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 554ac0b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown).

Azure Pricing Lookup loads about 4.9k tokens when it runs, and up to ~9k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 99 tokens; SKILL.md has 2,060 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Without a licence we can't republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 2,060 words (~4,907 tokens).

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Azure Pricing Lookup is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The Azure extension for Visual Studio Code, which registers the pricing tool; Network access to Azure retail pricing data.
SKILL.md names 2 domains. As links in the text: azure.microsoft.com and learn.microsoft.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
No licence was found for Azure Pricing Lookup or its repository. Without one, default copyright applies: ask the author before reusing or redistributing it.
About 4.9k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 20k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 4.1k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
