Smithers Chain is an agent skill from smithersai/smithers. Maintain the existing @smthrs/chain runner, journal replay, catalog handlers, or sandbox boundary.
Its SKILL.md is about 300 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Agent Workflows. The repository describes itself as: Smithers is an agentic workflow framework for defining workflows in simple TypeScript configuration files and executing them quickly, durably, and reliably. The licence is MIT.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b7f0898. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Smithers Chain loads about 299 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 28 tokens; SKILL.md has 149 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from smithersai/smithers at commit b7f0898, republished under its MIT licence (© smithersai). 149 words, ~299 tokens.
.claude/skills/smithers-chain/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Read the chain README and its tests before changing this package. Keep the main product's single Agent.Service loop and @smthrs/flow authoring model; this skill is for the existing chain implementation, not a reason to add a second loop or graph API.
QuickJsRunner.layer() creates a sealed QuickJS realm per link with memory, stack, and step limits and no host globals. ScriptRunner.layerInProcess has no isolation and belongs only in trusted fixtures; a script there can reach process globals and dynamic imports.
The journal is the state authority. A matching settled call replays once, but a handler may execute again if it succeeded before CallSettled was recorded. Make external effects idempotent or give them an external durable key from the stable catalog call slot (chain, link, ordinal). Preserve the declaration/script identity checks that fail on replay divergence. Verify a crash after handler success and before settle when changing recovery.

Guides the design and implementation of Model Context Protocol servers in TypeScript or Python, from tool naming and error messages to evaluation.
anthropics/claude-plugins-official
Explains how to write Claude Code plugin hooks, both prompt-based checks and bash commands, for events such as PreToolUse, Stop and SessionStart.
farm-fe/farm
A skill your agent uses when starting any conversation - establishes how to find and use skills, requiring Skill tool invocation before ANY response including clarifying questions
obra/superpowers
Has the agent carry out an implementation plan itself, task by task in the current session, keeping a ledger, proving each step with a test and ending with one whole-branch review.
Azure/azqr
Create new skills, modify and improve existing skills, and measure skill performance.
anthropics/claude-plugins-official
Explains how to write agents for Claude Code plugins: the markdown file with YAML frontmatter, trigger descriptions, model and color settings, and system prompt design.
smithersai/smithers
Runs or authors Smithers TypeScript flows for ordered agent stages with retries, approvals, bounded loops and crash-safe recovery, built from Flow.make, Action.make and Effect.
smithersai/smithers
Guides changes to the Smithers agent loop's host wiring: credentialed model seats, budget accounting, sandbox limits and flow-call authorization.

Smithers Chain fits situations like: agent Workflows work in your project.
Run `npx skills add smithersai/smithers --skill smithers-chain -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/smithers-chain in smithersai/smithers) into .claude/skills/smithers-chain in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add smithersai/smithers --skill smithers-chain -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/smithers-chain in smithersai/smithers) into .agents/skills/smithers-chain in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add smithersai/smithers --skill smithers-chain -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/smithers-chain, .gemini/skills/smithers-chain, .github/skills/smithers-chain and .opencode/skills/smithers-chain in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Smithers Chain is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Smithers Chain is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 299 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
