shiftWork with fonts in the Shift font editor. An agent skill from shift-editor/shift.
Shift is an agent skill from shift-editor/shift. Work with fonts in the Shift font editor. Use for questions about the font, glyph, source, selection, or view open in the running Shift app (through its local MCP server), for reading, authoring, or compiling saved .shift documents and other font files with shift-cli, and for font concepts such as contours, components, masters, and variable fonts.
Its SKILL.md is about 660 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files, including reference files (for example `references/cli.md`, `references/fonts.md` and `references/mcp.md`).
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering MCP servers. It works with Model Context Protocol. The repository describes itself as: A cross-platform font editor built in Rust and TypeScript. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 5ca476f. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Shift loads about 663 tokens when it runs, and up to ~3.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 89 tokens; SKILL.md has 331 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/shift/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 4 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Shift is a desktop font editor. An agent can reach it in two ways; pick by where the font is.
| The font is… | Use | Read |
|---|---|---|
| Open in the running Shift app, or the user means "what I'm looking at" | The local MCP server (shift.describe, shift.execute, shift.capture) | references/mcp.md |
A saved file (.shift, UFO, Designspace, Glyphs, TTF, OTF), a batch job, or CI | shift-cli | references/cli.md |
For vocabulary and conventions shared by both, read references/fonts.md; for axes, masters, instances, and interpolation, read references/variable-fonts.md.
shift-cli, or describe the change for the user to make. Never claim an edit happened through MCP.shift.describe; for the CLI, run shift-cli --help and shift-cli <command> --help. This skill describes workflows and interpretation, not every parameter.windowId from shift.sessions.list(). If a window or session disappears, list sessions again and say so; never silently switch to another font.shift.layers.render) or capture the editor (shift.capture) and inspect the image. Do not claim a shape looks right from coordinates alone.Shift serves MCP only while Settings → Agents → Allow agent connections is on, and only while the app is running. Each build (Shift, Nightly, Dev) has its own server name and port; the Agents panel shows the exact setup command. Ask the user to turn it on rather than guessing ports.

anthropics/skills
Guides the design and implementation of Model Context Protocol servers in TypeScript or Python, from tool naming and error messages to evaluation.
shareAI-lab/learn-claude-code
Walks through building MCP servers in Python or TypeScript that expose tools, resources and prompts to Claude, with templates, registration and testing.
anthropics/claude-plugins-official
Explains how to bundle Model Context Protocol servers in a Claude Code plugin, covering config files, stdio, SSE, HTTP and WebSocket server types, and authentication.
charmbracelet/crush
Explains how to configure the Crush coding agent with crushrc or crush.json, covering providers, models, LSPs, MCP servers, hooks, permissions and config precedence.
mksglu/context-mode
Routes large command, file, API and browser output through context-mode tools so only the needed result enters the agent's context, instead of dumping it via Bash.
warpdotdev/warp
Migrates the compatible subset of settings and global file-based MCP servers from the Warp desktop app into Warp Agent CLI without exposing credentials or state.
shift-editor/shift
Rules for writing git commits in the Shift font editor repo: Conventional Commits subjects, user-facing changelog wording, concise subjects and logical commit boundaries.
shift-editor/shift
Finds unused files, exports and class members with Knip, then verifies each candidate through reference tracing before removing anything, never using knip --fix.
shift-editor/shift
Updates or creates DOCS.md files for Shift subsystems, recording the architecture invariants and constraints that cannot be learned from reading the source.
shift-editor/shift
Fact-checks DOCS.md files against the source code, testing each concrete claim and sorting it as true, false, stale or unverifiable.
shift-editor/shift
Sets the rules for finding, writing and updating Shift GitHub issues: search for duplicates first, use outcome-focused titles and testable acceptance criteria.
shift-editor/shift
Guides writing JSDoc for Shift exported APIs as a stable caller contract, covering ownership, lifetime, side effects and nullability that TypeScript types cannot express.

Shift fits situations like: questions about the font; view open in the running Shift app (through its local MCP server); compiling saved .shift documents and other font files with shift-cli; for font concepts such as contours.
Run `npx skills add shift-editor/shift --skill shift -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/shift in shift-editor/shift) into .claude/skills/shift in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add shift-editor/shift --skill shift -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/shift in shift-editor/shift) into .agents/skills/shift in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add shift-editor/shift --skill shift -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/shift, .gemini/skills/shift, .github/skills/shift and .opencode/skills/shift in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Shift is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Shift is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 663 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 3k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
