skill-captionsRenders, previews, validates and burns in production subtitles from QC-passed caption timing, with fixed dark or light caption styles scaled to the video size.
The skill separates subtitle timing from subtitle appearance. A companion skill, `ra-audio-to-subtitles`, owns speech recognition, phrase grouping, timestamps, SRT and VTT files and a `caption-qc.json` report; this one owns typography, panel geometry, fixed anchoring, previews, overlay rendering, burn-in and render checks. It never estimates timing from character count, scene length or text-to-speech segment length.
The workflow locks the final audio or video, requires the QC report to show a pass, picks a style from the registry, renders a still preview, checks it against the layout QC notes, renders the captioned copy while keeping the clean video and portable subtitle files, and runs `validate_caption_render.py`. The `anchor-dark` style, the default, uses a charcoal translucent rounded panel with warm white text, and `anchor-light` swaps in a warm-white panel; metrics scale with target height, so 4K captions are twice their 1080p size.

Skill Captions loads about 1.3k tokens when it runs, and up to ~3.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 128 tokens; SKILL.md has 429 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 429 words (~1,311 tokens).

Run `npx skills add Pluviobyte/rnskill --skill skill-captions -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/skill-captions in Pluviobyte/rnskill) into .claude/skills/skill-captions in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Pluviobyte/rnskill --skill skill-captions -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/skill-captions, .gemini/skills/skill-captions, .github/skills/skill-captions and .opencode/skills/skill-captions in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Skill Captions needs the command-line tools its instructions call (python3). Our summary lists: Python 3; Caption timing and a caption-qc.json report that passes QC; The ra-audio-to-subtitles skill when final word timestamps do not exist yet.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Skill Captions has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 1.8k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
