peon-ping-useSwitches which character voice pack (GLaDOS, Peon, Kerrigan and others) plays for the current chat session in Peon Ping.
Typing /peon-ping-use followed by a pack name triggers a beforeSubmitPrompt hook that intercepts the command before it reaches the model, so it costs no tokens. The hook checks that the pack exists, turns on session_override rotation mode in config.json, maps the current session ID to the pack in .state.json and confirms immediately. The SKILL.md itself exists mainly so the command shows up in the slash-command autocomplete.
If the hook is missing or fails, the agent follows a manual fallback: parse the pack name, list installed packs with the peon.sh packs list command, read the session ID from CLAUDE_SESSION_ID (using a default key when it is empty, as in Cursor), and set pack_rotation_mode to session_override in config.json. A pack that is missing or invalid falls back to the default pack and the stale assignment is removed. Named examples include peon, peasant, glados, sc_kerrigan and hk47.
6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit de4ada7. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Peon Ping Voice Pack Switcher loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 66 tokens; SKILL.md has 505 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from PeonPing/peon-ping at commit de4ada7, republished under its MIT licence (© PeonPing). 505 words, ~1,238 tokens.
.claude/skills/peon-ping-use/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Set which voice pack (character voice) plays for the current chat session.
When the user types /peon-ping-use <packname>, a beforeSubmitPrompt hook intercepts the command before it reaches the model and handles it instantly:
session_override rotation mode in config.jsonWhen the hook blocks the message, Cursor keeps your cursor in the input field so you can type your next message right away.
The hook scripts (scripts/hook-handle-use.sh and scripts/hook-handle-use.ps1) do all the work - this SKILL.md file exists solely for discoverability in the / command autocomplete menu.
Users can invoke this by typing:
/peon-ping-use peasant
/peon-ping-use glados
/peon-ping-use sc_kerriganIf the hook is not installed or fails, you can fallback to manual execution by following the instructions below.
If for some reason the hook doesn't intercept the command, follow these steps:
Extract the pack name from the user's request. Common pack names:
peon — Warcraft Peonglados — Portal's GLaDOSsc_kerrigan — StarCraft Kerriganpeasant — Warcraft Peasanthk47 — Star Wars HK-47Run this command to see installed packs:
bash "${CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR:-$HOME/.claude}"/hooks/peon-ping/peon.sh packs listParse the output to verify the requested pack exists.
The session ID is available in the environment variable CLAUDE_SESSION_ID. Read it:
echo "$CLAUDE_SESSION_ID"If empty (Cursor users): Use "default" as the key in session_packs. This applies the pack to all sessions without explicit assignment. Add session_packs["default"] = {"pack": "PACK_NAME", "last_used": UNIX_TIMESTAMP}.
Read the config file:
cat "${CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR:-$HOME/.claude}"/hooks/peon-ping/config.jsonRequired: Set pack_rotation_mode to "session_override". The pack must exist in the packs directory; if the assigned pack is missing or invalid, peon-ping falls back to default_pack and removes the stale assignment. The hook also adds the pack to pack_rotation (manual fallback can do the same).
Example config after setup:
"pack_rotation_mode": "session_override",
"pack_rotation": ["peasant", "peon", "ra2_kirov"]If pack_rotation_mode is "random" or "round-robin", change it to "session_override". If the requested pack is not in pack_rotation, add it.
Read the state file:
cat "${CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR:-$HOME/.claude}"/hooks/peon-ping/.state.jsonUpdate the session_packs object to map this session to the requested pack. If session_packs doesn't exist, create it:
{
"session_packs": {
"SESSION_ID_HERE": "pack_name_here"
}
}Use StrReplace or edit the JSON to add/update the entry:
session_packs exists: add or update the session ID keysession_packs doesn't exist: add it after the opening braceReport success with a message like:
Voice set to [PACK_NAME] for this session
Rotation mode: session_overrideUser: Use GLaDOS voice for this chat
Assistant: [Lists packs to verify glados exists]
Assistant: [Gets session ID]
Assistant: [Updates config.json to set pack_rotation_mode: "session_override"]
Assistant: [Updates .state.json to set session_packs[session_id] = "glados"]
Assistant: Voice set to GLaDOS for this session
Rotation mode: session_overrideCursor doesn't expose session IDs. Use session_packs["default"] instead: when doing the manual fallback, add "default": {"pack": "peasant", "last_used": 0} to session_packs. This applies the voice to sessions without explicit assignment (including Cursor chats).
To stop using a specific pack for this session, remove the session ID from session_packs in .state.json, or change pack_rotation_mode back to "random" or "round-robin".

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Peon Ping Voice Pack Switcher needs the command-line tools its instructions call (bash). Our summary lists: Peon Ping installed with its hook scripts.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
